Rockstar producer on Manhunt 2 multiplayer, possibility of Directors Cut for PC |
Ó
Around all the controversy over Manhunt 2 (Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation Portable), Rockstar Games will finally release the supposed "murder simulator" in North America. With Manhunt 2 surprisingly passing the ESRB as an M-rated game, Rockstar remained firm that it didn't "neuter" the video game as was the popular term used. Faced with questions over multiplayer and a Directors Cut edition for PC fans, producer Jeronimo Barrera could only hint a "who knows?"
Barrera did confirm that the game was revised to re-conform to M-rated standards, though the initial build was focused on staying in that territory alone. "We were floored by the AO rating because we thought we were definitely still in M-rating territory with what we originally gave," said Barrera.
He later added, "We are very happy to have the game out, and we feel we kept the original vision and the content and we didn't neuter the game as people say we have." Barrera also defended Manhunt 2's artistic inclination, stating that the story placed players inside a "strong narrative."
The game also lands the player in a position that may arguably only be experienced (emphatically) in three hours of watching SAW and SAW II. Getting back at demented tormentors, deviant sexual perverts, and psycho-med staff with syringes doesn't seem to count more for simulating murder than self-defense - though brutal and gory in a sense.
There are still a core fan following that look forward to Manhunt 2's arrival on their favorite gaming platform, and thus the question loomed: what's next for the grim series? Multiplayer perhaps? To which Barrera replied:
That's a very interesting question. ... Who knows where the "Manhunt" series is going to go? And that's definitely something that warrants some exploring on our part for sure.
The PC side of Manhunt 2's fan base voiced out its desires for the uncut, adult-only version of Manhunt 2 - the form which the game was originally developed as - but Barrera wasn't giving out any hints just yet. "We have always considered the feedback of our fans. We believe it is very important, but at this point in time, we have no announcements to make," he concluded.
