Rock Band Wii "similar" to PS2 version, more details |

Harmonix has given more details about the upcoming Wii version of Rock Band (also available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) to online gaming news site Joystiq. Here's what we gathered.
First of all, Rock Band for Wii will apparently have functionality "similar to the PS2 version." There will be no online mode, so no online co-op and no Rock Band store. There will also be no character creator included, hence no Mii support.
Regarding the peripherals, those with Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PC) will not be able to use their guitar controllers with the game. Said Harmonix, "support for the GH3 guitar peripherals in Rock Band on the Wii was not possible without Activision's permission."
One good thing though is that gamers don't have to connect a Wiimote to any of the peripherals to get them running. The drums for the Wii version will be sporting a white finish. You can check it out by clicking on the image to the right.The Rock Band Wii bundle will also come with a powered USB hub just like the Xbox 360 release. The game itself will include Dolby Pro Logic II support at launch and will also be 480p compatible.
Harmonix has yet to say anything specific about the five bonus songs that will come with the game, so keep checking back here for more updates.

On point:
I'm glad that Rock Band is finally coming to Wii and now we have more information. Although I think it was screwed up that they didn't use the online features and that you can't create your own character. I think I would have even accepted if we could use our Miis. I think that because of this I would rather by it for my Xbox 360 instead.
I for one would not buy this game. The fact that they are just giving the wii a port of the PS2 version should be enough to anger most wii users. The wii CAN have downloadable content, online mode and online co-op. Why should we be shafted on these features that our system is able to do? these are the games we should hoist up and shout "NO MORE PORTS!" and protest for change.
Its no ones fault that the wii gets any sort of bad name or shovelware but the consumer.
Remember kids, anyone who buys this package is telling these corporations that we could care less about quality for our system. As long as it has a name our 360/ps3 buddies toss around, we will spend our money blindly.
This is unacceptable! I for one am not purchasing this crippled version. Shame on you Harmonix!
Some developpers see the Wii as a entry level console where people don't care about online or any extra feature. They just want the hype of the game (good lord it's rock band...)
I'm pissed, really, and now I won't get this game. I really wanted online play and DLC. Well now I'll just go and play at my friends house since they got a way better version.

MCS is right again! The Wii gets a crippled PS2 port of a game that's incredible on real next gen systems. Let's see if they half ass it enough to forget about stereo sound like Guitar Hero 3. I think they will probably get that right, but in this era of half assed Wii game development efforts, anything goes!

Please explain how the Wii could have DLC for the songs for ROck Band? How big are the song files for the DLC on Rock Band? With 512MB of space, I don't see how much it can realistically hold

I know Rock Band is one of my favorite games on the 360 (and reviewers agree), so obviously Harmonix is not at fault.
If Nintendo made a worthwhile next gen system, the same version would be on the Wii!
Since it is really a last gen system in legue with the 8 year old PS2, it gets the same crappy cut down version! Also about 4-5 months later. At least Guitar Hero 3 was finally fixed. Man, it must suck to own a Wii!

While I said it would probably get mono sound, that was a joke only a non-Wii owner would find funny.
I wouldn't find it funny if the overhyped console I waited hours outside the store to buy turned out getting late half assed ports all the time either. Luckily, I knew the Wii sucked from the minute I heard the system specs and pricing (me having common sense and all.)

While it's true I've been unable to find a Wii in stores, who says I'm looking? I was able to get a Japanese PS3 before the US launch (for resale on ebay) so you know I could find one if I really wanted one. I would have gotten a Wii for resale as well, but who knew it would be a hot seller and Nintendo wouldn't make enough?
Also I never go to joystiq, I just knew the Wii has more in common with the PS2 than real next gen consoles. It wasn't hard for me to predict the Wii would get the cut down PS2 version, just much later.

I pre-ordered a Japanese PS3 with Play Asia for $1,000 and got it 2 days before it launched here. It sold on ebay for $1,800. After fees and shipping I made $600.

The Wii has MORE in common with the PS2 than the XBOX 360 and PS3. MORE is the key word. DVD media, similar graphics capabilities, 480p max resolution, similar online capabilities, etc. The main differences are the controller and the Wii costs twice as much.
