Rock Band 2 - Image 1

Harmonix has just released a patch for Rock Band 2's Xbox 360 version that adds support for wireless mics, background downloading, and an audition mode for Rock Band Network, among other things. A PS3 version of the patch is now undergoing the certification process and will be out ASAP. There's no word yet on a Wii patch, however.

Here are the patch notes:
  • Rock Band Network Audition Mode. Available from the “Extras” menu on Xbox 360 versions of Rock Band 2, members of the Rock Band Network can now upload songs from their PCÂ’s and audition their songs using our suite of song audition and testing tools. Currently in closed beta, the Rock Band Network will welcome authors to open beta in the coming weeks! Find out more at http://creators.rockband.com
  • “Sort by Stars” in Quickplay. If you hit the “Sort” button on the Song Select screen, youÂ’ll come to a brand new sort that orders songs by the star ratings that youÂ’ve achieved on each song. Each star rating gets a category, as well as an “Unplayed” category for songs that donÂ’t have a star rating recorded. Finally, you can record your progress towards gold starring every song in your library!
  • Background Downloading in the Music Store. Purchasing songs from the Rock Band Music Store now no longer requires you to wait for a song to download before you can download another song. You can now queue up downloads to your heartÂ’s content, which is going to be incredibly handy with some of the amazing DLC thatÂ’s coming out over the next few weeks and months.
  • Xbox 360 Wireless Microphone Support. Rock Band 2 now supports Xbox 360 Wireless Microphones, like the Lips microphone. Finally, you can now have a fully wireless Rock Band experience!
  • Chord HOPO improvements: If youÂ’ve played The Beatles: Rock Band, youÂ’ll notice much more robust handling of chord hammer-ons and pull-offs. This patch implements those changes in Rock Band 2 to provide a more natural chord hammer-on/pull-off experience.
  • Velocity Sensitivity on Ion Drum Kits: Ion Drum kits now support velocity sensitivity in both drum fills and Drum Freestyle mode.

HOPO

I haven't played Beatles. What's different about the chord hammer on/pull off's? As it is in rb2, I never hammer on chords, 'cuz it's easier to just strum them, but if the patch makes it work better, that might be cool.

What I'm really hoping is that when rb3 comes out, we'll be able to port all the songs from rb1 and 2 to it. It's gotta' be a huge disapointment for gh fans that they can't port theirs, and it's the main reason I won't be buying any gh games any time soon.

awesome

The download queue is something I've been wanting for a while

hmm..

funny, i was just thinking a few days ago that it could have been better to see all the stars for each song, like how many stars you got on them and if they are already in gold stars, and now this patch made it comes true.. thank you harmonix.. youre really the best!!.. thats why i love rb and not gh..

about the HOPO thing, i didnt notice any difference between rb2 and tb:rb hammer ons and pull offs.. hmm.. oh, well as long as it makes rb2 more awesomerrrrrrrr than it was then its no biggie at all..

.

Wow, HMX actually listened to the community, but it's no surprise.

I own Beatles RB, and the way it handles the chord HOPOs seemed to be the same, although it just felt like it had better hit detection. I don't know much technical about the chord HOPOs beyond that though.

Finally being able to see stars on the song browser = FTW.

huh?

I own rockband 1/2 guitar hero 3/4/5 and guitar hero 5 does let you bring guitar hero 4 songs into the game, just all the stupid (easy) ones. In my opinion it is bad to hate on either of them, both have strong points. Rockband 2 excels over guitar hero in online connectivity and structure, but the general ingame playability (charts) and the ability to use multiples of the same instruments at a time (4 drummers, 4 guitarists, etc.) makes guitar hero 5 quite fun :D.

Star Sorting is nice.

One thing I have a problem with though is in RB2, the drum fills are too quiet, it just needs a volume boost.

Certification Process....

Sony should try running their own firmware updates through that process....
