Great news, retro gamers! The US Virtual Console will soon be getting a treat. You guys remember River City Ransom from the original NES system? Yep, it's coming to the VC this Monday.

For those who don't remember or don't know about the game, here's a recap. River City Ransom is a beat 'em up game whose main protagonists are Alex and Ryan, two high school students.

These two have to cross River City to rescue Ryan's girlfriend Cyndi. While crossing the city, they are attacked by gangs of students in stages that gradually escalate to boss fights.

Along the way, you can purchase a number of fighting techniques from shops around the city by using money you take from your enemies. This makes us wonder if the game's appearance on VC was preempted by the looming release of Grand Theft Auto 4.
