Wii - Image 1

Good news, retrogaming fans - homebrew developer mirakichi has just updated his GameBoy Color emulator for the Nintendo Wii. No, it's not a patch to magically emulate the games of other Gameboy incarnations (although we're hoping for one in the near future), but it's definitely an important one, as it concerns your save files.

Here's the changelog, so you can let the importance of this update sink in:

2008-04-10
  • SRAM to save (SD card write Front)
And that's that. Not a very long one, is it? In any case, we hope that you've been reading up on Wii homebrew before you handle this particular emulator, as we all know that doing it wrong could potentially brick your Nintendo Wii. Updates as we get them, and enjoy the emulation.

» WHAT?!

"doing it wrong could potentially brick your Nintendo Wii"

Bulls***! the only way you could brick your Wii is if new software is being installed on the wii, eg the homebrew channel.

Seriously Qj, you're potentially scaring off people who'd otherwise be enjoying GB games on their Wii.

Anyway, thanks Mirakichi! This is a really important update, and as far as I can tell, the first and up till now only emulator to support Front SD saving. Well done ^_^

It pays to be safe than sorry, right?

» Sort of

safe, I'm fine with, but that was unnecessary in my opinion, to me it makes homebrew appear scary and complicated, and best left alone. if newbs how could potentially code some great homebrew one day, see that and think "echh... better not" then that's one less homebrewer on the scene. why not just suggest that they do their research before installing to make sure it works?

» oh come now brother ThrashWolf

dont you think thats taking it a little far. This is just one news post. As a news poster myself on another un named site. it's our responcibility to you the members, to make sure you understand the risks. This particular release is indeed more dangerous then a normal peice of homebrew. "front sd write" uses unstable unfinised code that is basicly "experimental" at the moment. And as anyone on the wiidev channel in irc on the server

irc.blitzed.org or irc.efnet.net will tell you.

Front sd write uses an unfinised lib. and while this emu will work under normal conditions with the twlight hack.

it is unstable..

any number of reasons could cause this to brick your wii. if you happen to powe down your console while its writing a save state. 'possable brick" if you run this emu under another exploit like the freeloader, it could brick your console.

The warning, is part of a news posters job. if he had'nt warned about it. he wouldnt be a good news poster at all..

» I suppose...

It was just the fact that it seemed really vague, and "Wooo! could brick!"

Your post explains the potential dangers really well, and how to avoid them.

thanks
