Both the gaming community and the theatrical community have had mixed reactions about the play, but it was interesting to discover what they had to say about it. After Aaron Loeb's "First Person Shooter" hit the theaters in San Francisco, there have been really positive reviews about the four-time award-winning play, by SF PlayHouse tastes.
Now we could easily just slap in the conclusions of the reviews right here, but then that would detract from the reasons why each reviewer came to their own conclusion about the play. Mike Thompson of GayGamer was actually there at the premiere night and has come up with a review of the play.
Of course, some gaming sites weren't as enthusiastic about the gaming site's review, but then even Karen D'Souza of San Jose Mercury-News had a review that pinpointed that the play never placed the blame on video games and even focused on deeper issues involved with society today - what we've evolved to and yet do not care to admit.
So just like we said before, the play isn't a jab at the video game industry, it's a jab at humanity. Why is it that when something tragic happens, people start jostling arguments about and finding something to blame, instead of talking about the victims and showing some respect for the families who lost their loved ones? Your answer is as good as ours.
Hats off to Aaron Loeb for the deeper insight to the issue. And thanks to GamePolitics for the references. It's revelations like these that remind us that gamers are human, too. Not mindless killers who use "murder simulations," just as one-who-shall-not-be-named-here always jabbers about.
