Reggie Fils-Aime: Nintendo Wii shortage is real |

There is no conspiracy behind Nintendo Wii shortage, says Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. Nintendo has been accused of keeping supply limited to increase hype and enjoy all the "sold out" headlines we've seen in the past, but Fils-Aime sees the problem as a "missed opportunity.""There is no secret plan to store Wiis in a warehouse to spur demand. The company, after all, is trying to reach out to women and 40 and 50-year olds who aren't avid gamers," Nintendo's head honcho said. He continued, "They aren't going to sleep outside of a store overnight or visit a retailer five or six times. It is literally a missed opportunity."
Fils-Aime added, "at this point, we are literally trying to catch up with demand." Last month, Nintendo stated that the monthly output of 1.8 million Wii units will remain unchanged even as we enter the holiday craze. Looks like we'll have to wait and see if the white hot console will be available to everyone.

The PS3, unfortunately, was stocking on shelves and staying there for a good 2-3 days before someone walked in determined to buy one. "Oh, so I guess Sony is actually producing them faster?" True, but it also means they aren't selling as well. I had a PS3 once for about 2-3 months after christmas of '06. The only game I owned was "Tales of Genji: Days of the Blade" (Which was an okay game. Graphics were good, story line awesome, gameplay ok, camera angles sucked. 3.5 out of 5), and I felt like this was all the PS3 could provide. Graphics and gameplay (Yes, it was only one game, but read on, people). I had some songs on there from my iTunes playlist and a photo or two, but I never really connected with it.
Besides, a console won't sell when a majority of its players are ages 10-30, stated in a post I wrote earlier. The Wii, however, is being sold to ages 5-70, which is a rough quesstimate on my part, but you must agree that the Wii attracts a larger variety of age groups. So yes, the Wii might be sold out, it might be hard to find, and you might not see it have a shelf life of more than an hour until next summer. But since when was this a bad thing?

And that like you said still didn't raise the price cause of the $599 price tag.
As for the rest of your thing, i think what you mean is Nintendo wants to have limited supply to keep the hype for Wii in the future. Cause the fact is if they had enough supply at one point the sales will drop and they won't be selling alot if any during the months or weeks, similar to whats happening in Japan. Everyone who wants a Wii there probably already has one. Which is why the sales are dropping, and the PS3 is actually gaining ground on it.
