RC Car Wiideo: Control an RC car with a Wiimote

Here's something fun to do with your Wiimotes. One of our readers, Rene, pointed us over to this video of his colleague demonstrating how a Wiimote can be used to control an RC car.

The video's uploader (listed as www.Schoeppl.Info) says in the video notes that the Wiimote's bluetooth signal is received by a notebook. The notebook then sends the signal via serial port to hardware (labeled RS232 near the start of the video) which generates a signal for the pupil connection to the original remote control.

To control the RC car, the Wiimote is held sideways with the directional buttons on the left. All you have to do is tilt the Wiimote forward to make the car move forward and vice versa. You can even control the RC car's speed depending on how far forward or backward you tilt the Wiimote. To make the car turn left or right, the Wiimote is titled to the left or right respectively.

Check out the video below for some motion-sensing, RC-controlling fun. Again, thanks to Rene for the heads up.

Why have you come to the conclusion that it is fake? It wouldn't be that hard to do and it's obviously real.

TIGHT! And this is all still within a month of the release. I can't wait to see what kinds of cool ideas people will come out with in the future for the Wiimote. Perhaps hooking it up to a lawn mower and mowing your lawn from your porch, lol.

Obviously fake, someone will be standing behind or to the side of the camera controlling the car properlly copying the directions guy with wii mote is doing. So obvious watch the delay between some of the movements, sometimes nothing happens for quite a while.
