Quake Wii 20080610 released; GX acceleration coming soon - Image 1

Quake Wii 20080610 is now ready for download from developer Eluan, but note that there's two versions of the Nintendo Wii homebrew game. The later build is what you'll need to gun for, since it doesn't only introduce the latest software renderer, it also doesn't have saving disabled.

The improved software graphics rendering support is welcome, as an earlier build, Quake Wii 20080601, allowed players to reconfigure their graphics for crisper effect (to the limits of software rendering of course). Now players will be able to pile on the pixels with better turnout of framerates.

The author notes that though the software mode visuals have been upped, a hardware accelerated build will be pushed out soon. The GX accelerated version of Quake Wii is nearing completion, though Eluan apparently has had to wrestle with Wiimote and GX hiccups to get the support running.

Also expected to come is a way to get the networking implementation sorted out. But we'll have to wait for the next build to confirm. Until then, enjoy!

» Keep up the good work

I know not alot of people comment on this work in progress but I think that might be because of how often you release an update. I'm not complaining I'm just worried that by the time I'm done writing this there'll be a new version and this won't get read anyway. Long story short, keep it up, I can't wait for the GX version.

» of all the homebrew......

THIS is the one I am watching the MOST! The things learned from how this is implemented will PAVE the way for some of the BEST homebrew games out!

The wiimote implementation of this is amazing, and the controls are crisp and clean.

My only complaint is that the wiimote seems a bit too sensitive for me. But I think that is more a product of my slow reaction skills, NOT the fault of the creator.

I cant wait to see everything working on this, and even more to see what insparation others draw from this to design their NEXT homebrew.

One thing I think would set this off, is if you could somehow make the wii use the headtracking setup as shown on Youtube. I know he used the wiimote as the camera and a laptop to run the software. But how hard would it be to have a set of IR glasses on and point the 2 player wiimote at you. Then have the player bob left and right on the screen as a result of the movement from your head???? That would be amazing, and truelly would make this the FIRST world renowned homebrew setup. I dont know if Eluan reads these comments, or even has a clue who QJ is. But if you do buddy, let us know if this is possible at all!

» Nice work, Eluan!

We're looking forward to your newest version, and we hope you'll be able to get the network code running! Fragging with Quake on the Wii over the Internet will be very fun!
