PS3 vs. Wii: A quick browser critique |

Graphics power and gameplay aside, one point of comparison we've been hearing for the PS3 and Wii are their browsers. With that in mind, AZ central decided to run some tests on what features each browsers had/lacked. Here are the results:
Straight out for the box:
The Wii's Opera Beta came out Friday last week, and while it's still going to need some tweaking, it's a good point of comparison to the PS3's relatively fresh browser.
Speed:
The Wii's browser was notedly fast, and allowed for updates like Ajax or Flash. For the net dudes, this means sites like YouTube and maps.google are accessible. The PS3 didn't fare so well in the comparison. They noted that the browser was constantly asking whether the user would like to open other apps (like Javascript).
Interface:
The Wiimote stood out in this test, as its motion controls gave the very familiar feel of a PC's mouse. And while trying to punch in characters with the Wiimote was still slow work, the SIXAXIS was even more sluggish.
HD:
This was where the Wii had problems. While the hassle of having to open a separate page to enter a URL will be fixable, the browser's low-res isn't. Nintendo's packaged the Wii with no HD support (it's locked at 480), so high-definition sites were noted to be blurry. And while page zooming cures this problem, it's still clunky.
Final verdict:
While both browsers were fun to work with post-gaming, they still needed a lot of work. PC fans can relax, as your chosen machine's secure in the corner of your room.

the wii browser is a trial/demo, meaning that all of the functionality has not been implemented yet.
All Zelda fans e-mail Nintendo and ask them to re-release The legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess with Voice Work.
i noticed that while the wii clearly won, it wasn't actually stated in the article....do i smell fanboyism? also, this article makes no sense at points...

soooo...the ps3's was sluggish and constantly bugged you about if you wanted to run javascript, but it's still fun? maybe you should tell me WHY. Pretty graphics do not a browser make.
this article seems to concentrate on the wii more than on the ps3...
All you have to do is allow "Java Script" to run on the PS3! Also, if the Wii has no hard drive for cache, how in the f&^@ does it run the internet faster?!?! Another side note, did the guys actually connect a mouse and keyboard to the PS3....yeah it supports both making the internet experience a little bit better, I hate this site, its so bias it makes me want to puke crap!!!
Just run linux on the ps3 and using firefox
yeah this is true, i havent installed linux on my ps3 yet but im waiting for a more stable version of YDL before i install, Dont wanna update +P and i also rarely use linux or know how to use it well enough.
running firefox on linux for the ps3 is off the wall... also super nintendo emulator runs likes dream.... not to mention the gaim program you can use, aol,msn and a few others all in one........ Linux for ps3 rocks
How about them Wii Points you have to buy (500 Wii Points) to use to get the web browser for the Wii here in the upcoming month or so?
Alright i found this article a bit biased but o well, the wii's browser is probably is better atm, but not dissing the wii it probably cant get a whole lot better were as the ps3 has many possibility's. Also when you plug in a mouse and a keyboard the ps3 will virtually be a sort of computer. And you could just use mozzila on Linux and have msn and things at the same time, theres no way the wii can beat that, is there?
Personally I would prefer to wait a bit longer for a page to wait rather than not be able to read what its on the screen. Its more like a tie the wii is easier to use but the ps3' hd browser is easier to read.
Just remember, these are gaming machines. In my opinion, anything it does besides play video games is simply extraneous stuff.
So rather than judge a console based on its web browser, how about we base it on how much fun it is to play, or how immersive the games are...just sayin...
