According to a poll by gadget magazine T3, the PS3 is officially the most wanted next-generation console. This is pretty surprising, since Sony's next Playstation console is still a whole 6 months away from launch. It just shows that the price of the PS3 is not putting off potential buyers.

Although no official figures were released, Sony's console triumphed over Nintendo's Wii, which took a close second place by a small fraction of the voting. Microsoft's Xbox360 didn't look so good, slipping in the popularity stakes by taking third place. The Xbox360, which launched before Christmas last year, scored less than half of the votes of it's rivals.

Its quite interesting to see the popularity growth of the Nintendo Wii. Ever since the launch of the original Sony Playstation, Nintendo hasn't fared that well in the console stakes. This polls suggests that the Wii is making a comeback, besting Microsoft by staying ahead it, and coming pretty close to current console top dog Sony. Could the Wii mark a rebirth for Nintendo? Only time will tell.

people that say PS3 is the most wanted and are waiting for it to be released before they get a new-gen console aren't true gamers! PS3/Sony have just copied all the best things from XBOX 360 and Wii. just get a XBOX 360 and Wii instead :)

Oh really now, What have they copied from the Xbox360? People still mad about the motion sensing need to get over it.

Why buy two consoles with decent games when you can buy one console with better games? Xbox360 so far has crap for games. The sequals to its first party games show no real improvement besides graphics. The PC ports dont even look half as good as they do on a PC, and Xbox Live is far from being the best online system.

I cant find one thing that the Xbox360 really improved on from the original Xbox360. Controller is the same. Games are basically just graphical upgrades. PC ports are worthless if your a PC gamer as well. Xbox Live is worthless if your a PC gamer. Wait!!!, didnt microsoft want to target PC gamers with the Xbox consoles?

The Xbox360 has nothing really going for it right now. The top game on Xbox Live is still Halo2. Since the Xbox360 can track is people are playing single player games too, this means that people still dont find Xbox360 games good enough to put down Halo2, or the Xbox360 isnt worth buying to play games other then Halo2.

Heres a good reason why the Playstation will do well. Keep and eye on gamefaqs.com. Watch the top10 FAQ pages. How many Xbox360 titles do you see keep a top 10 Position? How many PS2 titles do you see on the top 10? Enough Said.

Controller has changed mate its smaller, white, no black and white buttons, console manager button etc. Oh i forgot it has NO WIRES!. and you obviously dont have a 360 because i do and the games do not suck. PD0 is the best online fun ive ever had. GRAW is fantastic as is FNR3. im sure ive missed many more.

PS3's online will be a rip off of live. Live is by DAMN far the best online service ever seen so far. During E3 there was 600 TERABYTES downloaded off of it. Thats a massive amount of d/l's and users. Everything on live has been done twice as good than any online service. Servers are great, voice messaging is superb etc.

Games like Halo get on the Xbox because Microsoft own Bungie. That makes Halo a second party title, not a third party title.

However, Playstation gets games like Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy and Devil May Cry from Konami, Square Enix, and Capcom respectively. All independant third partys that choose not to put these games on the Xbox.

I own a 360, its an incredible console, but each is gonna be great in their own way. Admittedly I wont be buying a PS3 immediately because I wont need two consoles - but I'll be tempted.

Any stats really cant compare at the moment because the market hasn't been able to sample 2/3 consoles, so everyone who is saying the ps3 is the most popular console is bias and hasn't a leg to stand on. Similarly the people who say the 360 will kick the ps3's ass.

So how's about we just look forward to what the 360 is gonna be able to do as stuff is released for it and wait to see what sony and nintendo are gonna offer us!

I own a 360 and i do enjoy playing pgr3 online. apart from that, its a pile of poo. Limited media centre capabilities, poor games, rip off prices on the marketplace.

I agree with the person who commented on halo 2 being the most played game on live, it just shows the poor standards of 360 games currently available. The only thing to get excited about on the 360 is GTA 4, but i think i will even hold out for the ps3 version!

Microsoft got it wrong last time and they've *****ed up even more this time.

Im perfectly happy with 360 and its live service.

Spectacular graphics, Unrivaled online service, Easy access to online friends, addictive arcade games.

Im sure ps3 will try to compete in this area. but for the mature gamer content is what really matters.

I like competitive playing, with friends. theres nothing more satisfying then completly dominating another team online. comunicating with the headset, listening to your opponent scream " would someone please kill him!!!"It makes paying $50.00 a year so worth it.

Ps3 is supposed to be free. And it very well might be!

But you get what you pay for when it comes to service.

And until Sony can prove to the world that they can provide the same kind of service that Microsoft can at no cost or at cost, then 360 will be the better system in my opinoin.

In the end 360 is for those who want competitive online play, and like to socialize.

And the ps3 is for those who like to play with themselves!

And the Wii is for those who like there games simple and easy to pick up.(Im not picking on the Wii, theres a huge market for that It will do well in my opinion)

First things first. Europe loves them some Sony Playstations. 360 may become more successful than the PS3 there but it's very doubtful do the two facts. Bias against American products and popularity of the Playstation consoles.

It seems like the PS3 has won this generation already, not by much but enough to keep it as the leader. You must remember that the PS3's manufacturing price will decrease faster than the 360 and by induction they should theoretically be priced the same (the premium versions) within the next 1-2 years after the PS3 release. With a HD movie player, a more feature rich system, more power, and finally popularity, Sony will dominate completely 3 years into it's lifecycle. This machine is ahead of its time and as such it's price represents it.

BTW 1080P is available by both versions of the PS3. HDMI is not needed for 1080P.

I love the fact that MS is pushing their machine the way they are. They have a great machine with great online experience. It definitely aims at the PC players though. Furthermore, they will really hurt in Japan and Europe is already seeing a drop of sales on the 360 front. Lets hope there's more of a competition from MS when the PS3 comes out. They really need to step up their game library with RPGs, platformers and action adventure games. FPS players are a minority in the Console world.

Please note that the start of new Generations is always a battle for all companies fighting for your buying dollars. It is only after a year or two when you really start to see a product fly ahead. For now don't take polls too seriously but don't discount them either as they really do represent a somewhat view of what gamers as a whole are thinking. For example look a gamefaq poles, before E3 PS3 dominated the polls by a large margin but after E3 Wii has risen to the top. Wii seems like it will be a success within the first two years of it's life. Once the fun of swinging controllers around wares off and envying next gen graphics (by that time everyone will have HDTVs) it will slowly fade or maybe not who knows. For now just enjoy the show and reap the benifits, there's no better time to be gamer!

Xbox360 is NOT getting an exclusive MGS game

Xbox360 has ff xi, not ff xii, and thats not xbox .. plus the game sucks even more than the ps2/pc version

xbox has "many capcom games" so you list... streetfighter... it's nice 360 finally gets an RE game.. but they will be missing capcom/clover games such as killer7 or okami, or godhand, or viewtiful joe

and DMC is only on the PC aside from PS2, and the famitsu article was a mistranslation so it's still a ps3 exclusive

I mean look at you poeple fighting over gaming systems like it is the way of life or something like somebody offended you. The PS3,360, and the Wii will be great systems regardless. You Xbox fanboys are always on the Sony fanboy area what are they doing hear I mean if you are not going to buy a PS3 then don't bother commenting, Also you guys keep talking about a system that has not came out yet(WTF IT'S NOT OUT YET COMING SIX MOUNTHS FROM KNOW). People keep saying the games don't look better then the 360 well first they were run on beta kits that did not have the exact componets to the final system. Also that they were not on final dev kits so the games have plaenty of time to look way better(and I won't be surprised when they surpass the 360 graphics) Another thing is that Sony has not lost rights on DMC you Xbox fanboys keep saying that the ps3 games are also coming on the 360, but you are wrong the 360 is not better then the PS3 just by looking hardware wise. And if you see what big developers say the ps3 is easily the most powerful system in the market and that the games at launch well only take up 20% of the Ps3 power(www.gamesindusrty.biz) so THAT is why developoers say it is risky because the final dev kits aren't out to utalize the full power of the PS3.

So please stop fighting wait for the launh and then you can see.

Also in my opinin I think that PS3 will have a way better system profit in the long run due to the quikness of the manfacturing price well be. Also that they have over 100 million fans that are very loyal(I don't have a PS1 or PS2 ) and they dominate with the best games. the only 360 game that might make me get a 360 is Halo 3 that it Gears of War looks good but the sequal could go to the ps3 since they made ut2007 for the ps3 and pc only, so you never know. and heck you could alway buy a Wii and then wait and see which one is better 360 or PS3.

let the war begin on 2007 when the true games for the PS3 and the 360 come out.

Hey since I will be buying the PS3 with HDMI and the TV I own only has one HDMI (which is connecting my cable box), I was wondering if anyone know of a device that will do HDMI switching. The only thing I have found is an onkyo 803 surroundrecevie r that is $999. Also is anyone else going to have this problem? Should I sacrafice my cable box for the PS3? Sure easy, but I can't live without NESN HD in the best quality.

The reason We 360 fans even respond is because the PS3 fanboys need to trash a succesful system and blindly spout babble to feel justified that they are putting all there hopes and dreams in a company that will let them down in the end.

Believe me I hope PS3 turns out to be a great system. Its good for all of us in the end. Compitition breeds good games. But I am tired of fanboys telling me that a non existing system is going to be so much more fun than the 360, and that it will cause my system to go the way of the dreamcast.

Sony will not have 3rd party exclusivity simply because it is way too much money to make games for one system. Trust me, you won't be seeing too many triple-A titles on the PS3, that aren't on the 360 as well.

Also, most PS2 games were garbage at best, I own like five games, and three are GTA games.

Also, #49 is correct, this poll is not about which console people ARE going to buy, just which console they would LIKE to buy. I doubt the PS3 will do well with such a high pricetag.

dont even start with 600TB of Data. Fileplanet did more then 600TB during E3, in fact they go through a couple hundred terabytes daily. Guess what, Xbox Live during peak hours has less then 1/2 of the users Playing Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike is "FREE" and its just one game.. Xbox Live is no where near the best online service. Gamespy is the leader in online gaming services.

The controller for example. Nothing is really new. So they took off buttons and added new ones. Nothing new. The D-Pad still sucks for fighter games, and yes I do own an Xbox360. PD0 is by no means a "great" game. It seems your gaming expierence is limited to FPS games on the xbox, otherwise you would see that its poor in comparison to other FPS games out there. And you obviously stopped reading after I said Halo2 was still on top. Oblivion came pretty close to gaining the #1 position for a moment but since its been out for a while, everyone knows it wont. If the Xbox360 is such a good console, why havnt more people picked it up yet. I can goto the store right now and see several Xbox360s waiting to be purchased. So again, People find no games good enough to buy the Xbox360, or they just dont wanna spend the money to purchase an Xbox360 just to play Halo2.

The xbox fanboys that talk about these great games they have for 360 must have never played any other games before. I'm looking forward to Gears of War and Halo 3 but come on everything else is crap right now. In the future I see one thing for 360, fps,fps,fps oh look a new game aw darn its another fps! The amount of games being worked on for PS3 is huge and some of the titles are games that you just won't see on 360. Has anyone read the article about Assasins Creed for PS3 in the new Game Informer mag? With the amount of detail in the worlds and characters, and the NPC's with their insane A.I., and the awesome story line it's no wonder the Playstation name is the most popular and games that people put that much work into go that console. And the controller rules. Xbox fans are jealous and thats all there is to it. And how exactly did Sony copy everything from Microsoft? Which company was in the video game market first? People who talk about Sony not delivering or garbage PS2 games should actually pick up a PS2 and lets say God of War, Shadow of the Collosuss, MGS Snake Eater(or Substinance), Tourist Trophy, and so many, many more and maybe just maybe they would realize that the PS2 isn't as inferior to xbox as most say or that maybe playing a FPS online isn't the only form of excitement you can get from a video game and in fact can be quite and emotional experience.

You can vote as many times as you like because it doesn't check for multiple entries from the same IP. This fact alone makes the actual result meaningless.

Besides, since when does T3 gadget magazine represent the views of UK gamers? :)

Ah u guys are all retards goddam okay jeez were do i start first off people kick ass if they like xbox 360 ps3 are for ching people no offence but ching people make everythin i cannot go rong there and xbox 360 was umm im not sure but its better then a ching place or a full country lol ps3 was taken of the old xbox coz ps3 no has a harddrive witch xbox had just that it has a super so called chip for graphics i have heard from IGN a gaming site that SONY has gone over the limit of money and now might have to wait along ass time for them to gain money back and also there was an error on the Chip wat they used or sumthin like dat and if that continues PS3 will go downhill and xbox 360 wud be king also microsoft are gonna release Halo 3 when PS3 is released coz then every1 will be buyin Halo 3 so u Gay ass people think that PS3 is better think again coz you and all of us xbox 360 lovers know that it is better for sure

its amazing how everyone spends so much time arguing about systems that aren't even out yet! as of right now, 360 has won the next gen. WhY? Because nothing else it out yet!!! Everyone complains about being fan boys or what not but in the end everyone here is a fan boy of some sort. Who cares!!!! Sony is a copy of live!! Well damn.. i think that it was the same people who were once commenting that Sony needs an online service. Well now they have one (although we dont know details) and people are still complaining. Before, Wii never had the light of day (by most) but now it has so much attention. Nintendo nailed it on the money by not trying to create "next gen" graphics. If it was all about graphics, then psp would rule over the ds. DS has proven that wrong by making innovative an original games. I actually have owned every system but that's because i saved up and certain games are only on certain systems. I will support that. The biggest complaint that i can really hear about sony (there are others) is the price. Well damn, considering a Blu ray player is going to market for a $1000 minimum i'm okay with that. Sony's biggest problem is that they are trying to market two things at once (a next gen video game system/ a next gen HD player) in one package. For 500-600 to get both and lose money for it is pretty reasonable. PS earned respect for support from other game companies that made good games. Xbox has earned its respect from its online service. Nintendo fell off the map for a while but now we can really see a true next gen battle. If you like it, get it. If you dont, then don't ***** about it. Some people like the fun factor, some people like playing against others online. Some of dont have time to play against others and dont need online. They all have their strong points so support the one that meets YOUR needs, not "it has better graphics," or "this has better online" etc.

Yeah, couldn't help but notice that the polls closing findings tell a completely different story putting PS3 in a firm last place and 360 first by a couple of votes ahead of Wii.

to all u people that say that the 360 doesnt have 3rd party support that is a bunch of bull*****.. the 360 if not has more 3rd party support than the ps3. the 360 are also takin a bunch of ps3 exclusives like gta4 and devil may cry.. so the 360 overall has a way bigger variety of games than the ps3 does by far.

Just like Xbox had way more games then the PS2. I have a 360 as well as a PS3 and a Wii reserved but to tell you the truth I feel extremly let down by Microsoft and there 360. There aren't any games that are really impressive and is far as I am concerned Microsoft had a golden oppurtunity but much like Sega they managed to drop the ball. I love Nintendo because I grew up with an NES back in the mid 80's to early 90's but unlike there fans Nintendo has not managed to grow up and they lost a few of the titles to ony that once made them great. Its now Nintendo and Sony's chance to prove why there consoles are better then the 360.
