PS3 finally catching up to Wii's console sales? |

Statistically speaking, sales for Sony's Playstation 3 still have some catching up to do with it's Nintendo counterpart. Some statisticians from Sony, however, had something to say according to the numbers they've crunched regarding the current sales of the Wii compared to the PS3.While the Wii is definitely still leading in sales, Sony's figures suggest that the four to one lead in units sold by Wii since June have been reduced to a three to one lead this past August 26, and thus show that Nintendo's lead over its rival was "slowing."
However, despite the supposed slow down in the Wii's sales, Sony's PS3 has yet to surpass Nintendo in at least a month's sale before they can actually catch up to their other rivals. In fact, the only time PS3 actually held a sales lead against the Wii was in November last year.
The Wii still dominates in places like UK with a staggering one million units sold in just 38 weeks. The PS2 was the only other console to sell as fast in the region, taking up to 50 weeks before reaching the one million mark as well.
In retrospect, with the way the Wii's sale are going, it has been predicted that it will overtake the Xbox's own sales well before Christmas. Of course, there's no denying that Sony's shiny black console has been gaining momentum.
The sales figures should be very interesting especially as we head towards the holiday season.

Even though the PS3 is overpriced for what it does (plays a couple half assed ports and s*itty exclusives like Lair; plays mediocre selection of $30 blu ray movies,) the Wii is really overpriced because you can get the exact same hardware minus the controller for $100 new. The fact the exact same Zelda game is released for both consoles proves that! Why are people paying $150 more for a controller? They still couldn't even add a f*cking DVD player!
The only real winner in the pac is the XBOX 360. It has lots of badass games, and if there is a disapointment you can just easily pick up a different game. It's not like with the PS3 where you're waiting for Lair for 6 months, then its released and sucks ass, then you're forced to wait longer for more games you hope won't suck again!
everyone that wanted a wii has one, now they want a ps3 to complete their collection of nextgen consoles. If everyone has a wii then no ***** sales will be slowing down and sales for the ps3 will be going up.....wow....
Not everyone has a wii. if that were the case they wouldnt still be sold out everywhere. i can not imagine the PS3 being sold out everywhere at anypoint this year.
The wii has alot of games that appeal to alot of people where as the PS3 has what... out of all the games coming out this holiday season i would say 'heavenly sword, Warhawk and Unreal 3.. thats it. Warhawk is afun game but lags alot plus it does not appeal to the mass public, same goes for Unreal 3. Heavenly sword might be the only thing saving the PS3 this year but reviews are already coming in that its not anything special. I was so dissapointed with Lair. Out of all the games coming out this year, lair had the most potential in my eyes. I always thought it was going to be this great big world that you can explorer and it turned out to be a shiet flight simulator with goofy controls.
The 360 is in a good spot too. The only thing tainting it is the failure rate but the 3 year warrenty support helps it out in that deparment alot. Its got a huge amount of great games and great games still on the way, just like the wii. All PS3 fans do is complain and try to start fights with the other console fans.
Why is it that the PS3 is always fighting the other consoles? Am I the only one that notices this? You got the PS3 against the wii and the PS3 against the 360. I cant remember the last time nintendo attacked the 360 or microsoft attacked the wii.

Um makes a good point. Companies that dont have to go out of their way to bash the competition are always the ones that are more confident in their brand.
I went through your post and was struck by the level of bias. It immediately became apparent that the only console you own is the 360, and THAT is the reason for your biased opinion, not logic, common sense or reason.
get a better connection. I've been playing Warhawk since launch and have NEVER experienced ANY lag. Maybe you should stop playing on the American servers.
The Wii is something everyone wants now. The PS3 is something everyone will want in 2-3 years. As long as Nintendo knows this, they will be fine. But if they are going to be their stubborn normal self and not release a new console in 3 years, then PS3 will overtake the Wii no problem. Its all up to Sony and when they decide to drop down to 399. I think this is when the PS3 will put the Wii to shame.

regardless of if you *think* the GC and Wii are the same hardware except for the controller (although they aren't, and there are plenty of places to look which can prove this), YOU CAN'T PLAY WII GAMES ON A CUBE!
So even it was the same hardware, who cares? It's the games that are important and there are plenty of damn good Wii games out there that I'd be pissed I missed out on if I was so closed minded to think of the hardware alone.

I sure don't want a Wii! If anything, I'd get a Gamecube for $100. You can get some of the Wii's best games for it! Resident Evil 4 (remade for Wii for some reason) and Zelda are exactly the same on it!
I played Wii sports and it was absolutely horrible. The N64 stick figure graphics and NES gameplay made me want to puke. "Wow baseball! With the Wii mote it'll be just like real baseball." I thought. Hmm graphics sure are horrible. Oh, all I can do is pitch and bat. Even that sucks. Might as well be pressing a button. Oh boxing, all I see is more stick figures with stupid faces and my gloves. Tennis great, more disapointment. Can't even move my player. Nor does he move very well. Must have took a week to make this crap game.
Nintendo still can't keep up with supply? Microsoft did much better than that! What's so hard to keep up with? Red lasers? Gamecube processors? White plastic? Seems like this shortage is manufactured to me.....

Go to vgchartz.com and go to the compare consoles graph. All 3 have declined this past week or two. I guess there's just a videogame console slump right now for some reason. The Wii just happened to drop the most because it was the highest to begin with.

i think this guy has a point. motion sensing is kinda cool but all the time is not. besides its nothing new. now if Nintendo where to have that system WITH next gen graphics i would be impressed. but they wanted to be the cheapest and "most original"(all rehashed gimmicks) console on the market. i think the crap analogy is pretty accurate. if the Wii cost as much as the 360 or the ps3 even would any of you innovators bother to buy it?
sure the shortage is shortage is manufactured but i think that is just Nintendo creating good economics. they priced their product much lower than the competition so "everyone" would want one, even non gamers. then they release enough from the storehouse full of wii consoles every month to make people think there is a shortage well over a year since its release. PR gets out that people want a wii and cant get one which in effect spreads the word about the console. and as we know people want what they cant have. i don't want this emo console. i say Nintendo should have done a better job instead of kicking out G^3 1.5 with and upgraded processor and MOTION DETECTION CONTROLLER (caps look for special effect) then slapped on another hundred or so dollars to cover the price. sales wouldn't be as high but at least they could get some third party support. i wonder sometimes how many Zelda Mario and Metroid games you guys can play before you yearn for something new. also wtf @ the no dvd thing. are they waiting it out to see if its a worth while format? Well at least you made the right decision and bought a console which won't break down 3 months after you bought it. Wii is competing. They brag about how they are "changing" the market for the better. The only thing they are changing is hardcore gaming, or lack of it. They say they aren't competing but that was only an excuse in case the Wii flopped hard. Now that they are dominating they brag about how well they are doing. Its ok though, they deserve it for the success they are achieving, but the second they ruin hardcore games on my PS3 and 360 is the second Nintendo has gone too far.

All I can say is anyone who says warhawk lags or Lair is a let down I think you need to acutally go and play them. Just because the people who work for magazines gave them bad reviews doesn't mean they are bad. But what I do find as being funny is that ALL Xboxs (not counting Elite) have been deamed FLAWED cause M$ rushed them out and now they are paying for it.

The Wii shouldn't be considered a gaming Console as its more of a way to exercise in the comfort of your home. Me on the other hand I would rather be able to go out and enjoy a nice summer day playing Baseball/Tennis or any of those sports where they belong. So in winter you need to have a membership to a gym big deal get in shape the right way and get some real skill while your doing it.
