PS3 DOA - rotten luck, the thing won't work

Death on a Pale Horse - by Gustav DoreDo you know anybody who bought a launch console that didn't work? That just sucks. Some owners of launch Xbox 360s experienced this. Now it's clear the launch PS3s aren't perfect either.

As the story over at Gamer Andy shows, Bobby Blackwolf (of All Games fame) got a PS3 that was dead on arrival. It had no video output.

Some of you Xbox and Wii fans might think this is the perfect time for schadenfreude (happiness at the misfortune of others). But remember that early Xbox 360 units had hardware problems. And we still have to wait and see what problems will pop up with the Wii launch units (remember how people went nuts at the so-called "crashes" at the NYC event?).

No console is ever launched perfect.

Bobby Blackwolf's launch PS2 was also DOA (the drive wouldn't spin). The replacement wouldn't read.

The good news is when the console maker shows a gamer-friendly attitude: Sony is taking steps to address any issues. "They promised a 3 to 5 business day turnaround. Not bad at all, and nice to see that Sony was assuredly on the ball with this one."

this is still the onyl report I have heard of so far.

The PS3 is not perfect, so don't expect it to be. What is the history of mass production has ever been bug free???

Keep in under 5% Sony, that's all we can expect.

can you imagine? 600 something dollars for the console, X amount of dollars on games, probably a second controller. and when you get home its DOA! i think id have a stroke.

too bad too, 3-5 day turnaround does not necessarily mean 3-5 day replacement... or does it with $ony? if not, just think, no shiny PS3 for you, their all gonna be sold out... everywhere. im a bit of an Xbox-boy myself (ya, they had hardware problems too, part of the reason i still dont own a 360). but in all seriousness thats just not fair :S.

heres hoping for under 5% as well, Sony doesnt need this monkey on their back...

Promised a week turnaround,

It was more like 60 days. Stop listening to what the companies say, and start watching what they do.

much better information.

It means Sony released a rushed product because they were afraid of MS getting the holiday season.

One Homie I know his PS3 fried and wont boot after 2 hours of watching Black Hawk Down BD movie.

Could this hardcore decoding or whatver proved too much for the ps3 to handle and killed it?

Im scared to play a BD disc now..... And I have Black Hawk Down right here.... Im not playing it quite yet just to be sure!
