Potential new Wii exploit could render Twilight Hack obsolete

Wiibrew developer comex has found an exploit on the Wii's System Menu that could render modchips and the Twilight Hack obsolete. The hack is said to "run custom code on an un modded Wii," and can also run Wiibrew on the 4.0 update, which contains blocks for the Twilight Hack.

Not a lot of details have been released yet. According to the YouTube description, the exploit is "just a channel on an SD card." but a preview video has been released. (Let's hope it's not an elaborate April Fools' joke.)

» Let the Fake Vidoes Come.

» FAAAAAAKE!

See this photo why: http://www.quicksnapper.com/henriwatson/image/wii4-0brewfake

He is not on 4.0!

» fake

its not hard to tell its a fake

because there is no SD icon

» Not Fake.

This is defenately not fake.

There isn't an SD card icon becuase he hasn't inserted it yet. Take a look at 0:37!!!

That's when he inserts it!!!!! OMFG N00B!

I hate saying that, but that's what it's come down to.

And so what if he has the homebrew channel installed?

I have custom firmware on my PSP but you can still find exploits in it that would work with the OFW.

» Fake evidence

OK, i say this is fake for several reasons

1. He doesnt show he's on 4.0

2. We know he definetly has HBC installed

3. If it was comex ( a wiibrew dude) surely it would be on wiibrew.org?

» 1/3

I'm not saying I believe this, but 2 of those are easily shot down as valid evidence.

1. That doesn't mean he isn't on 4.0. No concrete proof that he is on any other firmware.

2. That doesn't matter. 4.0 doesn't uninstall the HBC. And that doesn't prove he cropped the video and just went back out and started the homebrew channel.

3. That's the only fishy thing. Nothing's been said about it. (as much as I know anyway, it's probably been proven fake by now, but that's not the point of this post)

» Can I make my opinon

I don't think it is fake, even if he isn't on 4.0 this is still better than the Twilight Hack,

Comex made it supposedly. Not the guy who posted the vid, the vid poster posted it for Comex on the 31st of march. The vid poster hasn't been heard from since then. So at the moment I think we all need to be patient.

» FAKE

Didnt you notice the expliot happened the exact time the lighting changed?

Its NOT 4.0 as the SD icon is always there its just greyed out when there is no SD on the slot and its blue when the SD is in the slot.

If you've already got something installed it can run. Try installing from WAD then transfer it to SD card. It will run but if you uninstall the WAD it no longer runs from SD as it needs the ticket to run so as HBC is already installed its not an exploit.

How can HBC run from the settings screen? I say its IS A FAKE as there is no way it will be real. 100% BS

Give me the exploit and I will try this on an unmodded Wii tomorrow.... I bet he cant as it doesnt exist.

In case you didn't notice, the camera adjusts to lighting throughout the video. A TV is a very bright light source so while the Wii menus are on screen the wall in the background is dark. When the exploit happened, the screen went black and the camera readjusted. There is no apparent cut and no apparent input swap.

I can't speak on the merrits of which firmware is running as I haven't updated my Wii since the Twilight Hack blocks started. I can say, don't be so quick to dismiss this on the merrits of videography, there appears to be no trickery going on as far as the video capture process goes.

If I were to take a stab at what's going on, I'd say there's a hole in the SD card manager that allows code to run from the SD card. If true, this is interesting.

If it's false? Oh well.

» BannerBomb?

from the title of the vid, I think this has something to do with the way that the banner gets loaded....I'm not exactly sure If they mean the Picture or what but if it is, It may work something like the TIFF exploit did.

IDK, just my thoughts.....

» Bannerbomb

It is real, this guy posted it technically the night BEFORE April Fools' Day and hasn't reported back since then, but Bannerbombing is real and has been submitted to TeamTwiizer's to have it somehow applied to installing the Homebrew Channel. So soon (maybe a month) we'll all be Bannerbombing our Wii's. All of them even the 4.0's!

by HIMFan - 2009-04-06 15:56
» Here's the process.

All you have to do is just copy homebrew channel into your \private\wii folder on your sd then go to sd loader in your wii menu (like it shows in the video) then for some reason it loads. I'm gonna test it on my Wii, it's already modded and at 4.0, but I'm going to downgrade to 3.2 and then get rid of all of my mods and test it. I'll report back, but what I have listed above is the process, I just want to know if I can do it on 4.0.

» .....

This is not a hack, back door or anything else. Its just a dumb user who thinks he stumbled on to something.

I have seen this a few times now.

user X uses Wani's 4.0 updater to install the new IOS. It also patches out ALL the blocks that ninty put into every single IOS. That inclues 16, and 60 and 61, and also keeps 249 in tackt.

What this also means is that it WILL allow you to run HBC straight off the SD card. Not because of a hole in the security, but because the security wa sall ready removed in the update. The user above me just told us that he has all these other things in. So if he is going to downgrade to 3.2, then remove everything I bet he uses wani's installer.... then just like magic he thinks he has a working exploit.

Take a VIRGIN Wii, put the official 4.0 on it and you will seee its not going to run. Not that easy!

» TWO Virgin Wii's

I currently have two VW's in my possession, one i just updated today like a jackass 4/14/2009 running 4.U and one that was updated about 2 months ago i think but its running 3.4U. Now I'm a Homebrew Veteran when it comes to PSP, DS, PS1/2/3 etc etc but as for Wii's this is uncharted territory for me. Any suggestions on where, how, or if i should begin/

by the way my sister has that same tv haha
