That's a funky looking gadget right there. For those of you who are not familiar with that thing, that is actually a theremin. Let's go have a quick history check on it.

The theremin is a musical instrument, invented by the Russian Léon Theremin, and is recognized to be one of the earliest fully electronic musical instruments. What's interesting about this is that you actually play it without touching it. Yep, that's basically what makes this unique.

In place of strings to strum on, or surfaces to pound on, there are two metal antennae which are responsible for the control of the pitch and volume. While it may not be your conventional rock n' roll piece, it is actually used in rock and pop as well, mostly to garner that effect of alien-like and surreal sounds. But this is usually mostly associated with art music, particularly avant-garde and 20th century "new music".

Now that's some neat factoid for you right there. Why don't you run along now and impress your friends with it. Better yet, try and impress them some more with your new-found talent: playing the Zelda theme on the theremin.
