PETA causing a circus ruckus, Take-Two and Circus fight back |
Ó
The criticism stemmed from the use of circus animals like the Asian Elephant, alleging that said animals are being mistreated. This is something akin to what they complained about with the used of a chimpanzee in the Samba de Amigo ad, also for the Wii .
Steve Payne, spokesperson for the circus' parent company (Feld Entertainment), also did not let PETA's allegations slip past them quietly. In a statement, he said that their circuses have always been proud of the fact that their Center for Conservation never failed government inspection and approval "everywhere we go."
We vehemently disagree with PETA. We're proud of our animal care. The Asian Elephant has been a symbol for Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey for its 139 year history... the commitment to animal welfare and conservation for the endangered Asian Elephant is something we do every day.
We expect another full-blown campaign from PETA to put a stop to this game any time soon.

They don't stop do they. It'd be sad if Nintendo let them win by not allowing the game on their system. I wouldn't be surprised.
How stupid will PETA get? Before this it was the killing of dogs in World at War. As if the killing of other people didn't matter at all to them. Now they're concerned about the well being of nonexistent animals?
On an un related note, shouldn't the head line be "...Take Two and Circus FIGHT back" minus the s in "fights" lol
PETA's work is to expose those whom mistreat animals. They try to generate publicity by taking on the biggest, most well known, and most visible targets. this is to open the public's eyes to the all-too-common abuse of animals. barnum and bailey circus has been sued before (and not just by PETA) for their use of endangered asian elephants in their shows. their own animal handlers and several people whom worked for them are key witnesses in these cases.
to address digitus' comments: 1) the organization is called PETA: people for the ethical treatment of animals. why would they point out the people being killed in COD? thats not their issue- there are other groups out there for that... 2) what "non-existant animals" are you referring to? PETA is taking on known animal abusers to draw attention to documented abuse.
I am not an animal rights person. I eat meat and go to the zoo and the circus. what you should understand about an organization like PETA is that these are groups of people that understand an issue and passionately work to resolve it. they choose their battles after a great deal of thought, and they act on them in the most effective way given that they have extremely limited resources. the most effective way for an organization to deal with a problem as immense as animal abuse is to publicize it, to make the public aware of it. that is what PETA is doing here.
***** PETA.
They don't give a ***** about animals. They euthanize animals.
