Pachter: Wii on top by 2015, PS3 in second place |

Analyst Michael Pachter expects that by 2015, 7th-gen console sales will end up like this: Wii on top, the PS3 in second, and the Xbox 360 in third place. The Wii's first-place position seems like a foregone conclusion, but what about the other two?
“We think that the PS3 will capture significant market share, primarily due to Sony’s victory in the high definition DVD format war, and will end up in second place by 2015,” he explained. “Although Microsoft’s Xbox 360 enjoyed a first mover advantage, we think that its market position will fade to third place due to lack of penetration in Japan.”
Pachter also noted that by the end of 2009, he expects the Wii to have a 49 per cent share of the US and European markets, followed by the Xbox 360 at 29 per cent and the PS3 at 22 per cent. In two years' time, he expects the Wii to have slipped down to 48 per cent market share while the PS3 and Xbox 360 will be tied at 26 per cent each.

and damonous, please don't use big words to make yourself seem smarter, superfluous would have been enough since it would mean the same thing without gimmicky, and embellishment.... go look up the meaning of that word

I know a lot of people that love their entertainment and are still ok with DVD's and HD rips off the net.
It will take a few years for people to start really making the switch and by then PS3 will be much cheaper and anyone thinking "I need a blu-ray player and a new console" will get a PS3. Most people though will pick up a $99 blu ray player.....

You cant be serious? If you said that statment to someone in that context they would think you were arguing that it is for kids and agree with you

there are plenty of games on the wii that any truely hardcore gamer would enjoy.
the problem is for everyone of those, there are 25 that are gimmicky crap, with ***** for controls.
i as a hardcore gamer waited patiently for over a year for more devs to add classic control support... to no avail. then my ex took the wii with her, and i only missed it because i stood in the freezing cold for hours to get the damn thing...
sluggish/inaccurate controls would kill a game in the 8 and 16bit days, and they still do... for me anyway.

first with the xbox it was it's big and heavy and the japanese don't like that... they sure love their ps3 tho.
now it's pretty plain to see it's just a cultural prejudice.
if the rest of the world treated japanese products like they do western products they would be screwed.

most of the time m$ has to pay (or outright buy) smaller jap devs to get them to dev for 360, again i blame prejudice.
chicken and egg... if the japanese aren't interested in the egg, who is going to raise the chicken...

i'm not really upset at them for anything, when i say "*****" something, i've pretty much given up on caring about it. love the culture and some of the excellent art it has produced (FFVII is my all time fave game).
i'm not claiming microsoft has software that can compete in japan atm, it doesn't make business sense to dev for a console that is shunned by the majority regardless of the reason. in this case i firmly believe it's cultural prejudice.
the way i see it, they are just as ignorant as redneck white trash that would never consider buying a toyota...
i bought a ps3 and a wii, so i'm not playing favorites...

i know, i know. i just found it amusing that no one that has mentioned him by name spelled it correctly.
it actually makes it look like he knows more of what he's talking about than you do. something to think about...

and blu-ray winning the war will help move ps3s down the road... by shatter's own admission anyone wanting gaming and HD will get a ps3, where as otherwise they MIGHT buy a 360 and blu-ray..
you can't say blu-ray has nothing to do with it.

it's traditional motion capture vs an accelerometer, any one with a clue can see which will be more accurate...

pachter + an analyst that works for wedbush morgan
on the other hand, whoever wins, the consumer should be the winner in the end (although in the financial side, they kinda lose)
