Pachter: US sales continue to go down, Wii price cut no later than November |
Ó
Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has some pretty dire tidings for Nintendo. According to the analyst, the Wii's sales will continue to decline unless Nintendo gives a price cut the go signal.
"We do not think that NintendoÂ’s Wii hardware forecast is achievable without a price cut, and as long as the Wii remains at its November 2006 launch price of $249.99, we expect continued year-over-year declines for that consoleÂ’s sales," he said. "We expect a Wii price cut no later than November."
For the month of August, Pachter estimates sell-through of only 240,000 Wii units. That's down a whopping 47% compared to last year. Pachter also expects the PS3's year-over-year decline to continue with 160,000 PS3 consoles sold. Sales of the Xbox 360, on the other hand, is estimated to go up 5% to 205,000.
Keep in mind that these estimates are for August. The effect of the price cuts announced for the PS3 and Xbox 360 will only be visible once the September numbers are in since they spurred demand only during the last few days of the month. Pachter expects the PS3, in particular, to see a substantial sales growth in September.

I would pick up a wii tomorrow if they dropped the price to $150, but I would never pay more the that for one, Monster hunter or not.
Lol, the Wii has lost it's edge...it has gotten boring AND it was only a fad at the time anyway or atleast it is here in philly and we all know about fad's (They always die out sooner or later). Plus, it's the ps3 time to shine lol we don't need no 6 to 11 age group game system *****blockin the ps3's swag lol XD
Funny and true
Its only a matter of time before everyone owns a Wii. The sales have to slow down a little bit sometime. The Wii isn't the fad, its the software and I'm glad to see the software fad of granny freindly games and fitness dying out, I'd like to get back to what I bought my Wii for, Nintendo games.
As for PS3 I expect to see it pick up significantly with a price point of 299 theres little reason to buy much else. Why buy a Wii when for 50$ more you can buy a blu ray player etc etc
Personally I don't see a reason to buy a Wii except for a few games and I'm not about to go out and buy a Wii so I can play 2 or 3 games. I never intended on buying this gens nintendo system, they lost me with the flaming pile of crap that is the Gamecube. And if I want to make whack off motions with a controller I'll wait until the PS3's version comes out in the spring so I can do it with precision :)
People got pulled in by it's motion technology......but now that tech is to familiar to stay popular. It's like the apple IPOD.,,,as soon as other mp3 players started using touch control and mp4 support..well the ipod turned into just another mp3 player. The only reason IPod Touch is successful, is because it has better features(ex. Internet Browser & Wifi)
is successful as well as the iPhone is mainly the support for it. Millions of different devs with millions of different apps mostly shovelware but some are good. This is the only reason I stick with my iPhone or I would have moved to a more hardware superior phone.
I bought this console back a few years back thinking I'd play it, I play more of the VC games than the actual games, and seeing Super Mario Galaxy at 720p made me jealous that unless you play it on a emulator..you'll never see Wii Games atleast at that resolution. So with that said, since it's the inferior of the 3 consoles, it should be the cheapest. AND it should be bundled with that new Super Mario Bros games for those who don't have a wii already.
Wow! People are STILL calling the Wii a fad?
Fads dont last for 3 years!
As long as they keep churning out awesome games I'll always own the console that plays them.
Has anyone else noticed that OVER 99.999999 percent of what pachter says never pans out? He's been BSing a Wii cut for two years now...
Why the hell would ANYONE want a Wii now? It was the biggest ripoff console in 2006 and is much more so now. A PS3 is only $50 more! The Wii isn't even worthy of a comparison to it.
Wii sales will continue to decline without a price cut.
Nintendo's solution to downward spiraling Wii sales? Hot new games like:
recycled "new" super mario brothers (from the 3 year old DS game)
Wii Fit plus (nintendo couldn't get it right the first time so you can pay again for a mild upgrade)
Metroid Prime trilogy - Go Nintendo! Sell those recycled years-old games for full price!
