Pachter: Natal, PS3 MC won't topple Wii

It's all about the motion - Image 1Missed our favorite analyst, Michael Pachter, much? Don't worry, he's back, and he's got more than two cents in opinion on the event that he predicted dead last year, E3 Expo.

This time around, he zooms in on the highlights of the Expo, the new motion controllers of the big three. His verdict: No Natal nor PS3 MC will topple down the great, big Wii.

So he said:

Sony and Microsoft each fired canon shots across Nintendo's bow, with Microsoft's Project Natal and Sony's Motion Controller (based on the EyeToy). We view Microsoft's proposed offering as intended to provide a user-friendly interface for Xbox Live dashboard access, and view Sony's offering as Wii-nis envy. We do not expect either to displace Nintendo's Wii from its leadership position.

Admit it, you did miss him after all.

im not a fan of the wii or the 360. nor am i much of a fan of the sixaxis itself. i dont use the motion control of the current DS3/sixaxis so i dunno if ill get this new controller.

BUT with this new ps3 motion controller:

1) it doesnt have a wire connecting the 2 like the wii, so id say it beats the wii there.

2) the natal, sure there is NO controller, so how the hell are you going to shoot a gun or drive a car? ps3 wins here id say too.

so my verdict ps3 ftw. call me a fanboy if u will but the wii games are too childish tho i admit some look kinda fun, and tbh i dont like the xbox controller in general. but ive been a PS fan since the ps1, so that might be why ive never liked the xbox controller. but in the end i really dont much care for motion control

natal is the ultimate gimmick, it will never be used for real games.

sony's mc is too late. by the time its ready with a decent game, nintendo will be ready to blow our minds all over again. plus, u need 2 motion controls... and the eye-toy?... no, they're diggin their own grave. with the wii-motion plus, nintendo's the only one who has it balanced.

The PS3 beats the Wii, established leader of motion tech for this gen, where motion is already there for the entire market as opposed to the minority that decide to buy an optional extra which only does anything for a select few games, because the Wii has a wire to connect a peripheral...

These two are the eyetoy all over again, and Pachter's right for once, neither is going to touch the Wii.

(I see Natal being more successful than the eyetoy, but you know what I'm getting at, things like that thrown into the market halfway through a lifecycle don't do what they're capable of. Which is why I think the Wii got made as opposed to the remote being given to the Cube. Nintendo did something smart for once!)

Saying the obvious. I mean god damn, every time with this guy

Look, guy, we know, the Wii already won. Doesn't take a genius to see that no amount of fancy cameras are gonna topple the Wii's 50 mil+ install base. That thing is just gonna keep selling

Who pays this bozo?

I don't think you get what Pachter means with his comments. Pachter is a market analyst, he's not saying which one he thinks is better, he's saying that neither of these will help either console to displace the Wii at the top of the sales charts. Which is entirely correct

I'm just hoping these motion controllers don't just mean a bunch of gimmicky crap 'casual' games on the 360 and PS3 like the Wii has loads of.

Least the graphics should be better.

that's exactly what this means.

X360 and PS3 are aiming at casual fun gaming with these new toys. Don't expect any decent game out of this, just hitting some objects and such.

The Wii has been forcing it down people's throats since its release while Microsoft and Sony to a degree have either not had it at all or just had it as an option hardly utilized. The Wii will continue to dominate in the motion sensing department for that reason, because its mandatory. You can only be so successful with a gimmick.

I'm not a fan of motion control, but I bought the Wii because I like Nintendo games (the good ones that they stopped making until very recently, not that carnival mini game sh1t). That said I don't really like the concept for Natal, and Sony would get my vote if I had to choose simply because they still have buttons with their crap.
