Opera Wii Interview |

An interview with Opera confirmed some information that had been floating around earlier. Opera Wii will include everything that the newest version of Opera for PCs and Macs, Opera 9.0, will. This means that Javascript is supported. Whether or not plug-ins like Java and Flash will be supported is unknown though. Browsing will obviously take advantage of the Wiimote, but how exactly that will happen is unknown. Bookmarks are supported too.
The interesting information is in how we will get Opera Wii. Unlike the Nintendo DS version of Opera, the Wii will come with Opera saved onto the onboard flash memory. It can be launched in just a few minutes.
Another piece of very good news is that the browser will be tweaked to be better viewed on a television. For example, the font will be bigger so you can read it from a distance. The resolution will be changed as well because TVs don't have as clear a picture as PC monitors (unless you own an HDTV). Whether or not video and music streaming will be supported is unknown, but hopefully they will! Can you imagine watching YouTube or Google Videos on your TV? That'd be pretty cool!

However what exactly do you mean by "The resolution will be changed as well because TVs don't have as clear a picture as PC monitors (unless you own an HDTV)." Does that suggest that if you do own a hdtv that the option for a higher resolution than 580i or 720i is avalable? possibly 1080i?
I have a HDTV plasma. Would be very nice browsing the web in 1080i on the wii in my lounge.
Thinking about this though and how previously it has been offically announced that the wii will not be hd compatable.
However I will assume the Wii will support Component cable as did the gamecube. heck I hope the Wii is compatable with the component cable from the GC. that would make my day.
Which of course component IS 1080i signal compatable.
The plot thickens.

Anyone clarify me?;)

LOL fix your article because if your reporting is accurate nobody is going to wait a few *minutes* for a web browser to pop up on their tv

I use Opera on PC and find it to be the most user friendly browser out there. I can definately see this working on Wii.
Some things I hope to be included:
=>Gesture based browsing - ie hold button and move Wiimote down and left to go back, down and right to go forward, down to scroll down etc.
=> Wiimote to act as pointer for following links and hovering over flash etc.
=>Widgets
=>Javascript, flash, plus futureproof in terms of plugins
=>High Definition. I know Nintendo said they weren't supporting HD, hopefully that is only for games. I don't see why it is not possible. I guess I'd have to get a HDTV too
=>Downloads of video, music etc to SD card
=>Torrents. Opera9 has built in torrent downloading functionality. It'd be great to have this on the Wii. But, I do find it unlikely

Just like it takes a few minutes to configure your PCs for the internet when you first get them.
