Your wallet after buying a Wii from a retailer - Image 1Remember that case of Wal-Mart selling a Nintendo Wii for US$ 677? Well, Wal-Mart isn't the only place where you can find an exorbitantly-priced Nintendo Wii. According to PriceGrabber, e-retailers are selling Nintendo Wiis for close to the same price: US$650.

Not surprising, considering the way the Law of Supply and Demand works. According to a survey that Price Grabber conducted on 3,309 online shoppers early during this month, PriceGrabber reportedly found out that "31% of online shoppers favor the Nintendo Wii" because of the kinds of games that the console offers.

Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, has already made Nintendo's stance clear regarding retailers who insist on creating Nintendo Wii bundles just to jack up prices and make a profit.  Whether these retailers will heed Nintendo's subtle warning remains to be seen.

# When you're giving millions in sales to GameStop exclusively...FreePlay 2007-12-19 01:50
... this is what happens.

Remember the 'tens of thousands' of rain checks GameStop is getting?

10,000 * $250 = $2.5 million

And they were talking about multiple tens of thousands.

How do you expect their competitors to survive when pretty much the whole flow of Wiis will be going to GameStop?

As if the Wii's hardware wasn't over priced enough before the jacked up prices.

# This is stupid.....The Obsidian 2007-12-20 04:23
Screw that a nintendo wii is worth 250......so people should buy it for 250!!! Not this 650 bull**** i know people just want to get them before christmas for there kids and family but.......this is idiotic. I dont think nintendo expected sales like this i mean.....really theyve surpassed the Ps2 at its time.....and especially when they kept stating they would meet the demand....advice to every one....Christmas shop BEFORE thanks giving.......

While I disagree that Wiis will go for $100 bucks any time soon, this $650 price is just a way to milk the Wii hype. Too bad consumers don't just skip these retailers, they should have done what Obsidian said and just bought theirs earlier....

...or later, even. That's assuming that you or your loved ones can wait patiently for a while.

Sorry, that didn't quite come out right. What I meant was that if you and whoever it is you're buying Wiis for can wait a bit for the Wii's price to go down, then so much the better.
