No, not the horsepower, but Nintendo has updated their spec sheet with official information. Some of them were rumoured or expected, but it's nice to see it in writing. Interestingly enough, Nintendo has completely toed around the DVD-player aspect. Maybe they realized we all have a DVD player now and that it's a wasted effort? Also, the CPU info seems to be past tense while the GPU seems to be present tense. Am I reading too closely into this or are they still working on the GPU? Anyway, without further ado, here's an easy-to-read feature list:

Launch Date and MSRP
  • Q4 2006 for $TBA (Yeah, those bastards)
Controls
  • Four controllers hooked up at once using Bluetooth
  • Wireless signal detected at 10 metres from console
  • WiiMote can be used as a pointer from 5 metres from console
  • Both the WiiMote and Nunchuk will have 3 axis motion sensor
  • WiiMote has built-in speaker
  • WiiMote features rumble capabilities
  • WiiMote has an expansion bay to attach peripherals such as the Nunchuk
  • WiiMote has a D-Pad and the following buttons: A, B, 1, 2, Power, Home, -, and +
  • Nunchuk has an analog control stick, C shoulder button, and Z shoulder button
The Look
  • Compact
  • Can be displayed both vertically and horizontally
Colour
  • TBA
Media
  • Self-loading bay
  • Can accept single and dual-layered "12-centimetre optical discs for Wii" (Does that include DVDs?)
  • Can accept 8 cm GameCube discs
Communication
  • Can communicate with internet even when power is off using WiiConnect24
  • Can connect to internet using IEEE802.1b/g protocol or USB 2.0 LAN adapter
  • Can wirelessly communicate with Nintendo DS
Virtual Console
  • Downloadable access to "fan-favourites" from NES, SNES, and N64
  • Downloadable access to "best-of" titles from Genesis and TurboGrafx
  • Downloadable access to new games by indie developers
The Specs
  • 512 MB of internal flash memory
  • Two USB 2.0 ports
  • Built-in WiFi capability
  • SD Memory Card bay to expand internal flash memory
  • Low power consumptions using state-of-the art design to make WiiConnect24 possible
CPU
  • PowerPC CPU codenamed "Broadway"
  • Made with 90nm SOI CMOS process
  • "Jointly developed and manufactured by IBM" (Past tense?)
GPU
  • Codenamed "Hollywood"
  • "Being developed by ATI" (Present tense?)
Other Features
  • Four slots for GameCube controllers
  • Two slots for GameCube memory cards
  • AV Multi-output port component, composite, and S-Video

"Wireless signal detected at 10 metres from console. WiiMote can be used as a pointer from 5 metres from console."

Does this mean that the WiiMote can't be used from farther than 5 metres, but other wireless controllers can? I'm confused.

I think it means that you can use the motion sensor abilities from 5 metres but the regular functions from up to 10 metres away.

Will the Wi-Fi work with one of the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connectors they released last year, or will they create something similar?

# Both can be interpreted as present tenseGuest 2006-05-15 21:45
"Jointly developed and manufactured by IBM" (Past tense?)

I think this can be considered Present tense, if you read it as if they omitted the word "being", as in "Jointly being developed and manufactured by IBM". I believe that they wanted to stress they're joint venture on the CPU, giving way to the importance on whether it was past or present, that's all.

Looking good Nintendo, thanks for the specs Rushan. I wonder what the internet would be used for? Anyone know if there is a Nintendo Online feature where we could play games online with each other or something?

I was thinking Wii and PS3 but the PS3 cost more than I want to pay at the moment. I think I'll just go for the Wii and wait a few years to see how the PS3 and 360 fare. I just plain love playing games in the end. A friend of mine just gave me a Neo Geo Pocket and I find it fun. Also I wouldn't mind getting a Dreamcast. In the end all of systems look fun.

Too bad Q4 2006 means January-Febuary-March of 2007 because they always talk about fiscal year.

# I hopeGuest 2006-05-16 23:38
I hope it's $200 or less, if it is I might be able to save up enough for a PS3 and a Wii (already have a 360).

# Another hope...Guest 2006-05-17 08:07
#22 - Yeah, I hope it's under $200 as well. Nintendo never released a system over that price range (Correct me if I'm wrong).

I hope and pray that the Nintendo Wii is still slated to be released before Christmas. I mean, will it be a worldwide release in late 2006, or just in Japan?

I also wonder how much the games from the Virtual Console Download Service will go for.
