O SNAP! Final version for Wii Opera browser goes LIVE! *UPDATE* |
Ó

The final version for Nintendo Wii's Opera Internet Channel has finally been released. Last we heard was that it was delayed to April, without a certain specific date. Surprise, surprise: Nintendo decided to roll it out today, without so much as a big banging announcement. But that's not stopping us from reporting it, now is it?
As we know, the Internet Channel is free for download (but only until June), and it allows you to surf the web on your console by using the Wii remote as a mouse. While features of the browser run a mile long, what concerns us more right now is getting that final version update onto your system.
- Go to the Wii settings menu -> choose to update your system
- Go to the Wii Shop Channel -> Go to the Wii Ware area -> download (or update) the Wii Internet Channel
- Go back to the menu to check if the new version successfully installed itself.
Update: Now we have a video clip of Nintendo Wii's Opera Internet Channel strutting its stuff. Check it out below.

Since 7 o'clocc PST. I walk out to my den and see the Wii lit up and thought it was a message but it was bout the system update and browser.
Why can't they upgrade from Flash 7? It's really annoying.. ytmnd would be cool on the Wii.

Hey is it possible to use a keyboard with the updated browser? Hope so
it's kinda crazy cause you guys suggested visiting qj.net on our wii once we got the browser updated and that's exactly what i'm doing. posting this comment with my newly enhanced web browser. coincidentally, qj.net was the first site I went to. you know, right after myspace lol.
hi
is it safe to update the wii? becuse my wii got the mod-chip on it
Is it still Flash 7? If so I'm going to complain to Nintendo...
adobe only has vershions 7 and under open for developers to port no matter if your sony or microsoft
awesome ! new browser is sweet im typeing on da wii !!
We could always watch full streaming videos.
no
No, no it isn't.
word on the street is that nintendo or some third party company is making a wii key board, so perhaps in due time.
the mod only effects the dvd driver settings and is nearly undetectable by nintendo, so yes you're fine
dun dun dun dun.... you are a fawkin dumbass..... dun dun dun dun DUMB!!!!
I went to the Nintedo website and this is what I read:
:"The full version of the Internet Channel is available as a free download through June 30, after which it will cost 500 Wii Points. Once downloaded, the Internet Channel is free for the lifetime of the system. "
Does this mean that the people who download the Channel already can use it for free, but if you just downloaded it after June 30 you must pay 500 wii points(5 dollars)? I am wondering if they are going to make it so that the free version is very basic, and then the version that is 500 wii points can get cool upgrades, etc.
i hope not,5 dollars for a browser? i might aswell go to my computer and use firefox.............
well my mod chip comes in tommrow. im wondering if i update now , is there anyway it can make my wiikey uncompatible with my wii? O_O
i have a wiikey and i updated and now have the full opera browser ad its fine, my wiikey works perfect still
what a bunch of losers
ummm can you use a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector i read about it at nintendo.com or something.
Or is there something that connects to the back of one of the two USB ports?
Awesome...truely awesome....well not that awesome...
Anyways...Is the Browser going to be able to do ANYTHING now? And can the Wii catch a internet virus?
Thats the main thing im worried about...Im going to go contact Nintenido...Im concerned.
you try watching a 25 minute from begining to end at 600kbps 512x384.
..dumbass
I assume you are talking about pimpstreamer - my browser freezes after about 5 minutes.
will it get updates
I didnt see anyone posting about the update that actually knew for sure so........ i took the leap with my modded wii and everything went fine. My backups still work and lost no functions. So everyone with a modchip can relax and update it. this full version is alot better just wish there was something above flash 7.
I thought you meant of the internet, sorry.
yegh mine is fine also
some more plug-ins would be nice... flash isnt the best quality video player
I hate when my wii jacks up when I try looking at a video on the web. I have to take out the power cord just to turn it off.
