While a lot of us are excited over Grasshopper Manufacture's No More Heroes for the Nintendo Wii, the December 6 release of Goichi Suda's game in Akihabara, Japan was short of spectacular. Even with Suda 51and executive producer Yasuhiro Wada present at launch to give away rolls of toilet paper, no customers came according to Akiba Blog.

Members of the Japanese gaming press including IT Media, GA Graphic, and Famitsu were there at No More Heroes' launch in Sofmap (a retailer in Akihabara), but they were unable to take pictures of people buying the game. After 20 minutes, someone from Famitsu's publisher Enterbrain decided to grab his own copy.

Apparently, even a cosplayer dressed up as Sylvia Christel wasn't enough to attract customers. From what we see on pictures from Akiba Blog, No More Heroes' launch did at least receive publicity from the press. If any interviews or updates surface, we'll keep you informed, so watch this space!

Thanks to tipster Bon for the heads up!

More proof the Wii just can't sell software. Good thing for Nintendo that they overpriced it so much they don't need to.

It seems most people just buy them as sort of a group party game or something that gets used a couple times a year.

» honey

atleast the systems didn't flop like sony

I think you're stuck in last year. The price was the only thing holding it back.

I also read the review for the Wii exclusive game Jenga. It's competely horrible, and only available on the Wii. It seems the Wii is getting more and more of those types of games for some reason.

» well what did they do

they made a even $hitter Piece of $hit 3 foe 400 dollers i think i just go out and buy a laptop for that money that does all the things a Piece of $hit 3 can and more

» I'm lauging at this

"While a lot of us are excited over Grasshopper Manufacture's No More Heroes for the Nintendo Wii" , no one went to buy a copy. I'm guessing "lot" here means "few" or "excited" means "little interest". I for one was not waiting for it. My wii's been eating dust, on the other hand I'm addicted to assassin’s creed(i hav ps3 version). for ppl above me, ps3 did not sell well from the start due to price and limited games, and recently it is beginning to catch up to wii's sale likely due to price cut and mainly to increasing number of games developing for the console. and demondirk has made a very stupid argument, c if ur little laptop that is worth 400 bucks can play blu ray, and if ur laptop can do what ps3 can do, then don't u ever buy any console again, the laptop can do everything. oh ya, u should hope it feeds u too, cuz u dunno "$hit"

Though I say that, you are entitled to ur opinion. btw sry for long post

» The wii can sell software

You see its like this even if the PS3 is selling

they are still losing alot of money, do to what

they put in it selling it for 400 is not

profitable....they REALLY messed up...but all

the same i wish the best for sony and hope

they bounce back which next year they should

and this No more heroes is really a hard core

game and if u look at the sales charts in japan

the best are almost always non hardcore. So maybe hopefully it will do better Here then

there....

Jenga is another casual game....like

everything else some publishers want to put

on the wii.... which i do not like but it seems to

be getting better. Its a famous game so they just said "Hey i know lets jam this well known family game into a wii game and sell it"!! Stop blaming Nintendo for this... do they develop every game that is released on the

wii?????Hmmm....wait..I....NO!!!

The only Wii games so far that have had any decent ratings were developed by Nintendo themselves (excluding PS2 ports.) Even that is coming to an end as Nintendo basically admitted they're stopping western game development. It seems they're content with all the money they made and don't care about making Wii owners happy.

There seems to be a trend of bringing simple board type games like chess and Jenga to the Wii lately, and those are cheaper and better in real form, without requiring a $400 console.

Quality Wii titles are getting so few and far between, it seems Mario Kart may be the last game with any entertainment value whatsoever.

» just shut up

come and flag nintendo post when you have "ACTUAL FACTS" and not ps3 fanboy propaganda

by The Obsidian - 2007-12-13 03:48
» What?

Mario kart will not be the last great game!! What a

stupid comment u just wait theyre going to unviel new

games as 2008 goes on........its really.....dare i say COMMEN SENSE!!!!! Theyre smart they wouldnt

stop Developing awesome games after this year!!! infact i predict Animal

crossing wii to be a big one next year and oh...have you

noticed that all the big games coming out next year

come out in SPRING!!!??? So stop acting like You know Nintendo or something crazy like that!!!!!

» a flop?

While these intial sales numbers are low (Pretty Disappointing), I don't understand how this can be considered a flop, IT'S BEEN OUT FOR 6 DAYS!!!! If it doesn't sell all at for a few months..okay....go ahead talk sh*t! But seriously it hasn't even been out for a week!

It's pretty sad that if people don't line up for a game, it is an automatic FLOP.....

by ackeejag - 2007-12-14 00:08
» well

most games start out big (if they are going to be big) then go down from there. this game has been so hyped by wii fans for the past few month and if japans sales are any indication its that even a good wii game wont sell. the top selling wii game is wii fit. no, not galaxy or some other actual game but a mini game. a good number of the people that bought a wii are adults that don't normally play video games and wanted that cute thing their coworkers were talking about. they wont buy something like this because it doesn't appeal to them. if you subtract those people from the demographic of wii owners it probably has the same amount of units as the ps3. this game will probably do a LITTLE better in Europe and the states but if you are expecting a hit then think again. this game reminds me of all the other shovel ware games from last gen. nothing special. enjoy your mini games wii owners and learn to spell. just because you are on the internet doesn't mean YOU have to use u and r as if they ARE words..

children....honestly....
