No arguments here: GT's ten worst consoles

While it's a lot harder to agree on which counts as the best of the best, pointing your fingers and laughing deviously at the worst of the worst is a pastime that almost defines the internet. Since you guys love making fun of things, here's something for you.

Below is a collection of what GameTrailers feels is the worst of the worst when it comes to consoles. It serves as proof that whatever problems you may have with this current generation's offerings, it pales in comparison to the garbage that other folks had to sift through during their time.

Think of this as history lesson on what not to do with gaming systems.

Man

how stupid and funny consoles,so many bad moves and ideas,ha ha everything said in the trailer it`s true:-) Anyway you forget the last one it`s PanasonicQ,this is actually a Gamecube with built in DVD player redesigned and for me looks cool and futuristic. To bad it did not see the light of the day Check it out: http://www.n-sider.com/media/database-hardware-panasonicq01.jpg http://personal.telefonica.terra.es/web/mallorcadisco/infoconsolas/fotos/Panasonic/Panasonic%20Q/panasonic-gamecube2.jpg

by - 2007-05-07 03:26:27
!

XBOX 360 should be on the list - but not before the PS3
by Quixand - 2007-05-07 03:40:56

you won't pass as Quixand until you do so.. and "brought"? brought where?...

Virtual Boy wasn't bad

It just didn't have a large market, the games were buckets of fun :argh:
by - 2007-05-07 03:58:22
WRONG, WRONG, WRONG

They lost my interest when they claimed that the 32X was CD-based. It was cartridge-based. Do your freaking research, folks.
by - 2007-05-07 04:08:26
.

This is for bad consoles, not successful ones. Come to think of it, how could your POS3 not be on here?

HAHAHAHAHAHA Sure, just keep telling yourself that. You are either amazing at sarcasm, or horrible at game judgement.
by - 2007-05-07 04:32:11
ha ha

It is true, nearly all these consoles had very bad software support and sold less than ten million. PS3 definately could make the list!
by - 2007-05-07 04:46:48
...

I dont understand how they can put the PS3 on until it has had a year on the market. When the 360 came out that was one of the worst consoles due to its constant breakage and ring of death. This list to be more accurate and fair should compare the consoles after each has had a year on the market.
by - 2007-05-07 05:43:06
...

the Gizmodo used to be called "GIZMODO", a much better name but due to copyright infringement had to change it. Web site Gizmodo.com is the true cause of the system failure. It was not because of 1. lack of game publisher support 2. steep price 3. corporate ties to corrupt mafia 4. worst corporate management ever 5. crappy design and short battery life oh wait, yah I guess it was all of those reasons.
by - 2007-05-07 05:54:12
Wow

I dont know why they put the Sega CDX on there it was a great system... I loved that sega soo much lol and Sega Channel was pricey but i think it was worth it.
by - 2007-05-07 06:27:40
If you took proper breaks to avoid...

seizures, migraines, fatal brain damage - then you would be safely enjoying 3d tennis like you never could before. I loved it - thought it was the way the market would move by now.... sadly, no.
by - 2007-05-07 06:30:15
I liked some of the sega cd games...

They were extremely innovative at the time. Sega Saturn didn't even catch my attention - I wasn't interested in another Sega system at that point... After seeing how my decision to pick a Genesis over a SNES for a year or so - I knew that Sega just didn't have what it took to beat the big N.... now to see who will beat the big M.... (*****s)
by - 2007-05-07 06:36:50
If only that was released instead...

If that was released instead of the gamecube I probably would have bought it... Stupid Nintendo marketing to children with the barney cube.
by - 2007-05-07 07:03:59
....

PS3 has been out for a few months numb nutz
by - 2007-05-07 07:59:41
LOL NDS should be in there

freaking nintendo promises good graphics handeld, the only 3D games are usually the First party ones like Metroid and Mario Kart... apart from that they are mostly 2D, i got a PSP instead free ISO games all round ROFL
by - 2007-05-07 08:12:11
agree

For once, I prefer the Sony product! I never use my DS, ever. The thing is near useless. It would be on the list next to the virtual boy if it didn't sell 40 million to mostly kids. I bought it thinking it would be the first decent 3d handheld. There just isn't any decent 3d games, and no decent 3rd party games. Mario Kart and new super mario brothers, wow. Any games without mario yet? Junk.

gjgyjgyj

retarded?
by - 2007-05-07 08:22:28
It's obvious

It's obvious that MS paid off GT to add the PS3. With the same reasoning, the PSP would be on the list, but as you can see the PSP is stronger than ever in it's second year.
by - 2007-05-07 08:27:32
Huh?!

I would have said the CD-i by Phillips was the worst... not Gizmodo
by Mister Common Sense - 2007-05-07 09:13:01
.

A virtual boy with motion sensing, color screens, light weight, seperate wii mote, and it straps to your head, that would be a winner! The old virtual boy wasn't that great though. Only Nintendo made games for it.
by - 2007-05-07 11:31:12
why

You are right, the CDX was a good evolution to the Genesis system, but the reason it is on that list, is because it SHOULD have been a bargain bundle type deal. Getting both the genesis and sega CD together in one package should have been cheaper then buying them seperate, but it actually cost more. If you wanted a genesis and sega CD, you could buy them both normally and it was about $100 cheaper then buying a CDX. This is why that system was stupid.
by - 2007-05-07 11:46:17
!

have u even seen the video? the only time a PS3 was shown was @ the start [only for a split second] - its not in the list of top 10 worst games consoles. btw: i thought the phantom was awesome + it would be quite cool for the nxt generation of gaming [digital distribution] : )
by CHUCKINGROCKSATSPACESHIPS - 2007-05-07 12:12:56
I Owned The SegaCD

It sucked compared to todays standards but back then, it was the shiznit. A few games I played were pretty cool for the time like Prize Fighter, Sonic CD, Revenge of the Ninja and Silpheed. Now those games look terrible but compared to the SNES and the Genisis, these games had so much content that people thought it was pretty cool. Good gaming memories.
by - 2007-05-07 12:16:32
I agree DS sucks

I agree my Nintendo DS has just been gathering dust since I beat Portrait of Ruin. I bought my DS at Launch with a couple of games and thought it was a good purchase but now I realize how wrong I was. My PSP gets constant use. Plus there are a bunch of games coming to the PSP that interest me for example Silent Hill Origins, Tales of the World Radiant Mythology, God of War and many more. While there is not even one DS game that interests me.
by - 2007-05-07 12:16:43
PS3 should be on it

PS3 should definately be on it. I mean PS3 doesnt have any games worth buying since you could get like 80% of them on 360. PS3 right now is the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen. Along with its humongous price tag, Im surprised it even sold over 100,000. PS3 should be at least number 4.
by - 2007-05-07 12:19:22
LOL

NDS? NDS is like the biggest sellout in Japan ever...and it's totally wooping PSP in sales Remember, this isn't just YOUR opinion, but everyone elses too...and sales tell everyone's opinion, so NDS>PSP
by - 2007-05-07 13:32:25
it's the worst onsoles of all time, not the good ones

it's sold over 2million, and that's before the major price cut, i dont see why you even care about the ps3, you bought the xbox/wii, pay more attention to that than the console you don't like. I couldnt care less if the xbox sold a billion units.
by - 2007-05-07 13:35:18
and you guys also stop bashing the xbox

Even though i have and like the ps3, the xbox is still wicked, I hate it when everyone starts bashing the console they don't like, as i said before , people who bash other consoles should worry more about their own console than what other people are buying.
by - 2007-05-07 14:04:48
i think all the console haters

should get together and spank each other's ass for a bit. Seriously, like your console and play it, just don't ***** talk others'
by - 2007-05-07 14:07:38
.

If you paid more attention to the countries around you, you'd know that some say brought instead of bought. tool.
by - 2007-05-07 14:09:22
pshyeah

I think the guys who made it WANTED the damn thing to fail.
by - 2007-05-07 14:10:58
yeah

agreed
by - 2007-05-07 14:13:58
rotted

i liked the 360 till it broke then i got a ps3, sony makes better hardware.
by damonous - 2007-05-07 14:41:18
32x was both

I was one of the suckers who bought both Sega CD and 32x. I think I may have sold it off before I bought one, but I distinctly remembered that they did eventually put out a small, small, small handful of CD's that used/required the 32x.
by damonous - 2007-05-07 14:54:36
3DO underrated

Virutal Boy DEFINITELY deserves to be higher in the list. Certainly, if they HAD to put 3DO in there, Virtual Boy was worse. However, aside from the entry price, once 3DO got down to around $250 (where it sold the most units), it was well worth it. There are a lot of fun, inventive games on that system that have never been redone on the nexter-gen consoles, and even those that were redone on PS1 were hacked-up to look like they were running much faster that they lost what made them cool (on the 3DO). I love my PS3, and way back when, I did eventually have 2 PS1's (for system link). But the 3DO was the grandfather of all the CD-based machines--the forerunner of 32bit--the shape of things to come. I would have to agree with the rest of their list though. I enjoyed Sega CD a bit, but that was really only the games made by Core Design (Thunderhawk, Soul Star). I also remember loving the beautiful black and silver behemoth known as Atari 5200, but I remember well having to go find an electronics part shop deep in the city so that I could buy the thin, breakable membrane for the controller to get it working again (only to be in the same spot just a couple months later). They did have a really ahead-of-its-time full-size trackball accessory which was notable. Lastly, Jaguar .... ran Doom well. That's about all that could be said for it. --Crazy as I was then, I do think I had 2 Jags at one point (when I was able to snag one for $50) to do system-link on Doom.
by Gryff33 - 2007-05-07 15:43:23
I'm not sure which is more pathetic...

...the people saying the Xbox 360/PS3 should be on the list (I'm surprised Wii was spared so far), or the people who think they're being clever by responding to those comments with "It's a list of BAD systems, not GOOD ones!" as if that's going to put the bashers in their place. Come on, people, does EVERYTHING need to turn into a flame war? So far, all the recent consoles mentioned in the first set of comments (especially DS) have sold a lot, probably much more than most or all of the consoles on the list.
by - 2007-05-07 15:47:25
Actually

the Panasonic Q was released, but much like Sonys PSX hyvrid idea, never really saw much success, so is difficult to find. They had one in the local import store here a few months back - looked a little over big really. Still - was a nice attempt to offer some variation to the typically static console market
by - 2007-05-07 16:42:06
????

No to insult anyone but seriously, shouldn't xbox 1 be in the list?
by - 2007-05-07 17:02:53
correct

the 360 should be on that list
by - 2007-05-07 18:22:39
poop

poop
by - 2007-05-07 18:56:27
watch..

It's snuck in there about "for only $599" repeated. It was implied.
by - 2007-05-07 19:59:27
hmm

i kinda liked the n-gage...not the best games...but great for making calls and playing games while waiting in a theatre
by - 2007-05-07 21:58:20
Haha

Saying ***** like that just shows people you're scared. One of the most successful consoles in recent memory should be on the list? Please. Meanwhile your precious PS3 is doing pretty bad, even in its home country
by - 2007-05-07 22:03:23
Actually, no

Durrr suits you pretty well. In some parts of the UK, people say they "brought something from insert store here" when someone asks them where they got it or when they simply wish to say where they got it, and even then it's not considered proper. He did not name a store, therefore he either made a mistake or doesn't know the difference between the two. Take your sh*t somewhere else, tool.
by - 2007-05-07 22:30:15
the real peace of crap

the real peace of crap is the 360 because a lot of 360 owners had to buy 2 or 3 machines meanwhile my ps3 is still good an there is no problem with it. and until a couple of months ago the warranty was 90 days that just tell you that even M$ new they made a peace of $hit thats why ya had to buy more than one.
by - 2007-05-08 02:35:46
i object

i like those 2 consoles. i already have tons of ps2 and no gamecube but given i have some extra money i will purchase Panasonic Q and PSX home entertainment system. for me these versions are top notch high quality versions of the consoles. theres also a PS1 model that can play VideoCD (without add-on) something like model 5505 or something which is only released in the middle east. i want these rare consoles.
by Demon Slayer - 2007-05-08 04:20:37
Ok

I guess I will admit having some fun with it back in the day. There's just no way it was worth the money and headaches.
by Mister Common Sense - 2007-05-08 04:27:35
Take it outside

How about talking something relevent to the topic rather than fantard trash bashing?
