Nintendo's Gifting Feature region locked - Image 1Word is that North American residents attempting to use Nintendo's Gifting Feature for the Wii to send Virtual Console gifts to friends/relatives abroad were being greeted with an error message.

The coding restriction is such that U.S. users are also unable to send gifts to their friends over in Canada as well. On the lighter side of the matter, no problems appear to have been reported for transactions within the regions.

Readers planning to use the new Wii shopping channel feature will want to keep this limitation in mind. We'll let you know if any new information turns up regarding this matter.

that sucks.

I was planing on getting a few games for my top friends. Not all of them are in the u.s. That really bites nintendo! You should at least award them wii points or allow people to send wii points if your going to region lock things. :(

no suprise

I don't know why it's a big suprise, they announced that the feature would be region locked (mostly because the games available on the shop channel aren't the same). For the USA - Canada, I doubt the region is the problem, the error code states all the errors that could lead to such failure. Many reasons such as : Account not registered on MyNintendo. Reciever already has the game. ...
