Nintendo World Super Smash Bros. Melee Tournament Results |
Ó

We previously reported that Nintendo World was holding a Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament every week in May with a finals in June. Well, the final event has happened and a winner has emerged. Who is it? One of the greatest Samus players around, Wes. Steiner took 2nd while Bum and HAX took 3rd and 4th respectively. The final match came down to a Samus vs Ice Climbers battle on Final Destination. Wes won a DS Lite and a party for his SSBM crew, Deadly Alliance. Being the good sport he his, his opponent Steiner was also invited to the party. The SSBM community is a tight-knit one indeed. Hopefully Nintendo will hold more of these soon. Maybe even outside New York. Vancouver B.C. maybe? Please?

I was happy to see that the winner was a Samus player, my primary since the first SSB. Congrats, Wes!
That is an awesome name!
Samus players are so freakin' cheap.
I'd like to see that fight on youtube one day, it'd help all the people who are good with Samus, but would like to improve.
You can find Wes' Samus all over the place. He's a very well-known player. If you want them on YouTube, here they are:

All of those are him against other world-class players. The first two are combo videos of some of his best moves.
It seems like all these things happen in New York.
yes awesome, great, i want a tourney like that here too =|

"One of the greatest Samus players around, Wes Steiner took 2nd while Bum and HAX took 3rd and 4th respectively. "
Should be:
One of the greatest Samus players around, Wes. Steiner took 2nd while Bum and HAX took 3rd and 4th respectively.
That completely changes who won the game.
Pressing enter in the 'short description' box by accident post a blank post... Maybe you QJ guys should change that to an error message instead.
It's funny how many of the supposed "high ranking" players of Smash didn't make it to an official tournament of melee. Players like PCchris and the DBR gang would inexorably rock the results of such a tournament. It kind of shows you in what regard "pro smashers" put into offical tourneys.
Not to say I don't think Wes didn't deserve to win. I think everybody should have their chance in the spotlight, and all good players deserve their 15 minutes. In all honesty, I think right now, as it stands, the whole "Smash world" is kind of messed up. People who are legitimately good never get a chance to show off their skill (because of no online or recognition) and the people who bark the most always get noticed, even when they're not necessarily good. You hear a lot of Smack talk on the Smashboards (even I hear it, and I go there once in a blue moon) and it really comes to show itself when DBR and Skypal shout the loudest, but pine in comparison to Ken, Azen, or Isai, who aren't even part of a group.
I hope this is something they fix with Smash Brawl. Even if there aren't leaderboards, I have high hopes for at least some sort of comprehensive stat-tracking system.
Yeah, sorry about that mistake. The period should be showing up soon.
Well Nameless, I also post results of MLG events and I'm thinking of making an FC6 and 0C2 post to inform people of those events as well. I wish more websites would do that =)
One of the easiest fighting games, anyway. Second only to Dead or Alive.
How did Wes move so fast in this video? http://youtube.com/watch?v=XIAgW5-GvIs&search=wes%20samus (the big blast during the time 1:07) A combination of landing as a ball and wave dash?
Ice Climbers=THE GREATEST
I see a lot of black folks in that picture...must have been some ghetto place i mean, look at the clothes style the kids have on...obviosly ghetto kids.....
or..they're just dumb***** suburban kids and wiggers.
I mean this link...http://youtube.com/watch?v=UkKTS9TB8es&search=wes%20samus
or..they're just dumb***** un-employed suburban kids and wiggers who live on welfare dont attend school, join gangs and to drive by shootings over drugs and they try to "keep it real" at the same time at a Nintendo showing.....prob got their minds of robbing the place of gamecubes and then robbing everyone in there......
If the borderline racist remarks don't stop, there will be IP bans.
In that video, Wes does a superwavedash. Only Samus has it. You have to lay a bomb then press right on the 45th frame and left on the 47th or something like that. Forgot exactly how it goes. I don't play Samus. You should search it up on GameFAQs or SmashBoards.
At least I don't have to feel bad about not being to attend the tournament.
