Nintendo wins Marketer of the Year award, Kaplan says gamers were bored before Wii |
Ó
After receiving the "Marketer of the Year" award from Advertising Age, Nintendo of America's vice president for marketing and corporate affairs Perrin Kaplan said that Nintendo noticed that gamers were already getting bored with their games, "even though they didn't know it yet."Nintendo of America's senior director of consumer marketing, Robert Matthews agreed, saying that gamers are now no longer playing games for longer stretches of time, just like they did before. "Just look at the way people consume entertainment today. The idea that you would spend hours playing videogames is just not real anymore," Matthews said.
As for Nintendo's marketing campaign, Nintendo of America's executive George Harrison revealed that they did not use more resources in reaching out to non-gamers, and depended on the media to pick up on the more interesting tidbits about Nintendo consoles and disseminate them to the market.
So far, Nintendo is doing a good job in reaching out to both gamers and non-gamers alike. Proof? The fact that the Wii won a T3 award due to its unisex appeal.

If by "gamers" you mean "Gamecube owners", sure. And we're STILL bored, now that Wii is here. /goes to dust off his wii again; it's getting a bit thick these days
Ok first of i unfourtunatly own a wii:'( And im sure the title should be "Nintendo looses Marketer of the Year award, Kaplan says gamers were bored after just 1 hour of playing the Wii" Yes i was very generous with the 1 hour i dont completely hate it :P
I was... Seriously. I couldn't get into anything on consoles. It's either kill stuff, play sports or drive around. I mean, that was great for 10 years of my life. I mean, back with Mortal Kombat I was oooing and aweing, fast forward 10 years and it's like, great AA BB Down Up. Crap, you mean I didn't execute the combo and get AAA++++ Rank? Crap. Guess I have to do it again. I enjoyed RPGs, but after 5 years of that, I realized that the exiled Hero, living in a small town, should probably not be the one saving the planet from the forced of the anti-captain planet. Hell, mabee the Wii is a little gimicky. And mabee it's just two gamecubes stapled together, but ya know what, it works, it's fun, and it has games and in two years, I will thoroughly enjoy the other winner of the console race, except at a lower price and higher quality, with a bunch of extras stapled right onto it.
