Nintendo Wii sales gets past the seven million mark, PS3 still far behind

Since its American release last November 19, we all know that the Wii has gone a long way. Retail sales figure show that Nintendo is ahead by almost four million units against Sony's PS3, but is still trailing the Xbox 360 by roughly two and a half million units . Here are the details:

Xbox 360: 9.71m (0.39M Japan, 6.17m America, 3.16m Others)
Wii: 7.09m (2.46m Japan, 2.84m America, 1.79m Others)
PS3: 3.31m (0.91m Japan, 1.44m America, 0.96m Others)

Xbox 360 is still ahead thanks to the earlier release advantage, but the Wii isn't too far behind. Most would agree that Wii is the casual gamer's choice; its relatively low cost and games aimed for everyone could easily push Nintendo's gimmicky console to the top.

While the PS3 is lagging far behind, it's too early to say that they've lost the console wars. After all, Sony claims that their hefty console will be kicking for 10 years. With big third party game developers backing them up such as Konami, Capcom, and Square Enix, the war has just begun.

tyhrt, you have no idea what youre talking about do you? Xbox only bans people who have excessive reports filed against them. There would have to be over 200 different people report you for a specific complaint before MS will even look into it. And banning people is a good thing, it betters the community by removing troublemakers and cheaters.

I predict when Halo3 xbox will sell quite well, putting 360 around 14mil (that includes the regular purchases from now till H3 releases). The Wii will continue to sell well as the supply begins to catch up with its bargain pricetag, and will only get better as devs learn how to contribute to the wiimote controls. The PS3 will only start to sell at an average rate when they cut the price by at least $100, and of course with MGS4 and FFXII. But the largest thing hurting the PS3 is the price, concidering you can get basically the same console minus a bluray player for $200 less.

metal hear 4, ratchet and clank, drakes fortune, lair, warhawk, socom, and that's not even 1/4 of the games coming to ps3 this year. That's not even to mention the launch of home sometime this year. the later half of 2007 will be ps3's time to shine. by 2008, ps3 should at least be 2nd place.

if you have a PS3 then you know that is not true... if you have a PS3 then you fully know what's in it other than Blu Ray capabilities... i'm getting tired of people enumerating PS3 features like wifi and such in forums so i won't do it especially for someone who owns a PS3 like you... if you have a PS3 and a 360 and i know you follow them both then you know the difference in the production cost of both machines... and you know that difference in cost is not just the Blu Ray... man how much is the difference of the 360 Elite's price with the premium one??? $80, $85, $90 or so maybe??? and what did they add??? hdmi and some other things??? how much is an HDDVD or Bluray??? or wifi connectivity??? or backwards compatibility??? it's makes no sense to go on and on for a pretender like you.

for someone who has invested money to own a PS3 you seem to find enjoyment in bashing and devalueing it...

The biased remark isn't so biased when its the truth. A new controller with aged hardware is a gimmick. The wii will continue to be a smash sucess but its also a gimmick. At least the DS allows you to use the DPad for most of its games. Being stuck with the Wii mote sucks. No fighting games, even smash will use the gamecube controller because the wiimote sucks.

You mentioned WiFi as the only difference I failed to mention. That shouldnt be taken into account since you can still play online without WiFi, and if you wanted to you do have the option to purchase a WiFi adapter. So that takes care of your already moot point.

The PS3s other capabilities can also be matched by 360, all except the web browser (which anyone owning a next gen console already has a computer). 360 integrates into the home network, PS3 has multiple card readers. 360 has wireless controllers, PS3 has less stable blutooth controllers. 360 has rumble, PS3 has tilt. They both have backwards compatability. They both have an online service (though MS Live has more content). They both support HDMI, 1080p, Widescreen, etc etc...One of them just costs $200 more, which is basically a fee for adopting a new movie format. Sure, you can get a HDDVD player for the 360, but only if you want it.

And youre right, I do own all 3 consoles so I should know the difference. You on the other hand only own a Wii and 3 PS3s, so of course you would find it hard to agree with my statement about it being basically the same console. Trust me, theyre the same...same graphically, same power-wise, same overall. One of them just costs a third more than the other. I know, you probably find that hard to believe, you may even say its pure blasphemy, but its true.

I dont bash the PS3, but I may be guilty of devaluing it. It certainly isnt worth $600 though, so I find your judgement of me fair on that part. As for you calling me biased, uh ok. Like I really care what my internet shadow thinks of me personally. You bought THREE PS3s, so anything even slightly negative I say about the PS3 is going to get your panties in a twist. It was the same with the ps1 (selling at a price nobody would buy, then lower till FF7 comes out and BANG, it oversells like mad) and the ps2 (selling poorly with not a lot of games, then the price drop and FFX, then it's selling like crazy), so I'd say the ps3 will have a price drop, then FF13 and BANG, it'll sell. lol pretty simplistic, but still working till now, we'll see if things continue like that in a year. the ps3 is still new or shoud I say 'very' new in some places. yeah, I agree that the price tag is quite high, and undoubtedly that's the main reason for the slow sale. however, I think that's a price to pay for introducing new technologies to people. before ps3, people are wondering why should they own a bluray disc player at home when DVDs are dominating the market and DVD players are all around and getting cheaper. look at the price of a typical BD player - ps3 costed even lower than just the player itself with a lot more features. that's what can be considered as bundle price. The ps3 is targeted for a 10 years market and I think that this is very possible because of the potential of the console itself. they update the system software and they have the hardware capable to do many things. the demand for a better game with better graphic and sound with more features, gives only the ps3 more opportunity than the 360 and wii in the future. the massive 50GB worth of storage offered by the BD is something yet to be exploited to the maximum by the game developers. it needs time and only time will tell.

hopefully all three will sell good, because this means all three will get a lot of games to choose from and more exclusive titles which will lead to that hardcoregamers will be buying all three consoles. btw i only own a 360 but i think that the ps3 is a remarkable achievement technicallywise and the wii is not only a gimmick because the remote may lead to really new game concepts that no one never has seen before.

If you add in everything you have to get for the xbox to equal it in features, its $200 more than the PS3... So what the hell are you talking about? ass hole. People are so ridiculous. Funny how the 360's sales #'s has not made it to the 10 million marks and has been stuck at 9 for the past 3 months or so....whereas the PS3 is selling, albeit a bit slow but that is okay the price tag is a bit much for some but when the true next gen games come out for it things will change.

Plus the PS3 has a MUCH bigger worldwide sale base then the 360...watch it is just a matter of time.

I know the 360 is better right now. A lot of people are saying the PS3 costs less in the end, sure, fine, but that's for those who don't want JUST A GAMING CONSOLE! I wanted just that, and I got JUST THAT. The XBox 360 supports 1080p (Don't know who even said it doesn't unless it's an Elite), has a HDD (As long as you don't buy the overpriced Core system), wireless controllers. I don't want wireless internet, I don't want some next-gen format (DVD still owns it all), and even if I did, I would still support the HD-DVD because the DVD company's reliable and I know it. Sure, Blu-Ray holds a crapload more, but I don't care about so much space, I just want a plain movie format. Pricey online? I don't mind paying once a year for a reliable community. And Valenceer, Halo 3 may not the the GREATEST YET, but it's still in the Beta form, and it still destroys Resistance easily. The game will come out in September, and the sales of 360s will boost dramatically. (Sony's trying to counter it w/ a Killzone 2 Beta, but it won't do too much, Halo is a godly game that's known everywhere. It's the only game really that EVERYBODY knows, other than Mario and Nintendo classics.) Besides, I could go around saying Final Fantasy sucks just because I don't care for those games, but I don't because I respect other consoles, I'm just trying to counterargue against these fanboys.

Yes, but see the thing is, I dont have to upgrade my 360 with all of that stuff. I dont need WiFi, and I dont need an HDDVD drive when my 360 plays DVDs. I also dont need a 3rd party HDD because I have plenty of room in my 120GB HDD.
