Nintendo Wii becomes fastest selling console in Australia |
Ó
When the Nintendo Wii was released, it took the market by storm and sold a huge number of consoles in a short span of time. The same is true in Australia where the Wii has officially become the fastest selling console, hitting 200,000 units within 50 weeks of its initial launch date. The Wii had a pretty good launch in Australia last December 4, 2006 selling over 32,901 units in just four days. Sales of the console slowed down a bit due to shortages, but it still managed to break the 80,000 mark last May. From that time till now, Nintendo sold another 120,000 Wiis.
Many people have given different reasons for the popularity of the Wii. The recent press release from Nintendo stated that the console proved popular with the gaming community because anyone can play using simple movements. Others believe that the low price helped propel it to its phenomenal sales. Whatever the reason may be, the Nintendo Wii is selling like hotcakes and will probably continue to do so in the next few months.
