Nintendo: one million Wii units per month - Image 1

It is already a given that the demand for Nintendo Wii hasn't wavered since its launch. And it's a good thing that we've been hearing about increased supplies in various retail chains across North America. The most recent of which is over at stores EB Games and GameStop this coming Sunday.

Despite these reports, a Nintendo spokesperson admitted that they are still unable to cope with the demand. He added that since January 2007, they have increased the production dramatically. The spokesperson explained,

For the first three months of this year we have been producing one million hardware units per month. We are increasing the manufacturing capacity and forecast to ship 14 million in this fiscal year to our distributors and retail customers globally.

Earlier today, we reported that a total number of 5.48 million units of Wii have been sold across the globe, not to mention 23 million video games sold in just five months. The spokesperson said that the demand is unlikely to go down through out the rest of 2007 and Nintendo is getting ready,

We have put solid production plans in place to ensure a steady flow of product through 2007. We are constantly replenishing Wii supplies however with such high demand, stock is still flying off shelves so consumers should continue to be in touch with their local retailers to confirm when new stock is arriving.

Lastly, the representative was unable to give a specific time frame as to when they will be able to catch up with the demand. So if you do want a Wii, be sure to check your local EB/Gamestop stores this weekend.
