Nintendo: Virtual Console games will be region locked (period)

virtual consoleFrom C3 News comes this official statement on the issue of Nintendo's Virtual Console: it will be region locked.  According to the C3 team, they spoke with a Nintendo Japan representative and the final word on the issue is:

"Virtual console games will be region locked. For example a European Wii unit cannot download VC software from the dedicated Japanese site." 

This should clear up the locked again, unlocked again rumors about VC that's been circulating in the Wii gamers' circle. So, sorry folks, but that's the final word about the matter.

The Virtual Console is Nintendo's new video game download service for users of the upcoming Wii. According to Nintendo head honcho Satoru Iwata, VC will be the video game version of AppleÂ’s iTunes Store and will support titles from NES, Super NES, Nintendo 64, Megadrive and TurboGrafx. However, the company is yet to announce the Virtual Console line-up on its launching day.

i been playing emu's since 97 it just the new trend on getting in on the emu bandwagon. and making so cash while ya there.



why region lock the games anyway? whatever it will sell, i have played most my favorite retro games already for snes

i have a psp 1.5 and so do most people on QJ.net



if the game give new content online multiplayer maybe but emus can do that already so what is the point.



nastalgia last about 5min every other month then you move on. only about ten titles where worth my time and i have played them

I have a psp with snes emmu, genesis emmu, etc, so the only games I may download are N64 games :D. I just hope to hell they release Banjo Kazooie....

if u wanto play N64...go buy..xbox for 50 bucks and softmod it...and play NES,SNES,SEGA,N 64,ATARI,PC Engine,MAME...and many many more...it's cheap and good...u don't even need any memory card..since xbox comes with harddrive...small but enough for classics and game saves..nice hah.? that is why i bought xbox ..oh and to play Halo and Halo 2 (not gonna wait..for Vista to show up..)...peace.

Yeah this is crap the only reason i play with emus on my psp anymore is for japanese games that have been .ips'ed

Dude, that's gonna suck. The only reason I'd want to get a Japanese NES game on the virtual console is to show my friends how weird Japan is! But i guess i'll just have to prove it w/ my softmodded Xbox...
