Reggie Fils-Aime - Image 1What does the Nintendo have to offer in the area of user-generated content? The only thing I can think of are Miis. Oh, and the Jam mode in Wii Music, to a certain extent. That, and, um, well that's it, I think.

This situation may change soon, however. Nintendo of America CEO Reggie Fils-Aime has recently said that user-generated content is the future of interactive entertainment, and so Nintendo's gonna hop right onto that bandwagon:

The era of passive entertainment is waning, active entertainment is where the action is. Entertainment consumers are moving from react to interact. Now fortunately form the start this shift has worked to the advantage of everyone at videogames. It is who we areÂ… Videogames have always been at the front lines of active entertainment and its revolution.

Fils-Aime didn't exactly share any details on what Nintendo has in store for Wii and DS owners who want to get into the user-generated content scene.  More Mii customization options, I guess?

» Super.

That's great, as long as it doesn't involve around a crappy idea... Like Mii's.

Hmm hopefully we won't have any of these create the game yourself type of things, I'm not sure I like them. Now if he was referring to say level editors in say F-Zero I would be all over that, but I doubt it. :(

» Dear Reggie,

We on computers have been creating original content in the form of levels, models, items, stories, etc. for quite some time now. If you'd like, you can live in 1990 forever, but we've moved on.

Maybe users could create a better game than Nintendo?

That wouldn't be hard, with crap-tastic titles like Wii music.
