Nintendo targets 9 million Wiis by end of 2006

ConsolesIn  the beginning, Nintendo was targeting 6 million units of Wii available by the end of 2006. Competitors Sony and Microsoft are not giving this much care though, saying all the flurry will be over for the Wii after Christmas. But back in UBS, world-leading wealth management firm and semiconductor analyst Alex Guana is reporting otherwise.

According to the reports he filed, Nintendo already built 2 million of its console by the end of September. You'd think now this is just simple math: 6 million target number less 2 million consoles already made (compute, compute) equals 4 million units to go. Wrong! Guana stated further that Nintendo is actually planning to build 9 million units more, at the most.

If this is true, then things are looking good for Nintendo. It had been predicted before that the Wii will indeed take the bigger slice of the console market. The remaining question now is how big or how small that slice will be. We'll soon find out as Wii gets released this November for U.S. and then in December for Japan.

Nintendo is just comming prepared. I'm sure when you can't find a ps3 on the shelf because Sony can't get their ***** together seeing a few Wii's on the shelf for sale might look even more better. Even more better when you see the line up of games. Try 17 titles ready to be in your hands November 14th. The next flow of games for the Wii looks to be comming out five days latter. This is acording to EB games list. So with more titles to play then ps3 and more consels to buy what looks better to you. I already have my Wii on preorder.

Unlike the other companies, it looks like nintendo is quite on the ball as it were.

A new console with shortage with only a few games, or a new game console with no shortage and many games that is even cheaper?

why a US release date first?? doesn't that seems fishy that it's not silmultaneous or at least japan first? like how it always been? i'm interested in the wii.. but i still have my doubts on how well the controller will be. and of course. if the controller fails. the system itself fails since even miyamoto said its the same basic hardware with the gamecube with a new controller added.... O.o
