title will sport extensive online capabilities that will truly step up the Mario Kart racing experience to a whole new level.

In the latest update for the game posted on the Nintendo UK site, we can take a look at some of the details of the new Mario Kart Channel that will soon open to cater to all the hopeful racetrack champions of the Mushroom Kingdom.

After logging onto the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection network, you have the option of playing a match on three different levels: Worldwide, Continental, or Friends. This allows you to select the region or location where you want to search for an online match. From here you also have the opportunity to text chat with any of your friends by sending different sets of predetermined messages.

The Mario Cart Channel offers various options to set up those online matches even if you don't have a copy of the Mario Kart Wii disc inside your system. One of the more interesting features would be the Competitions option, which allows Nintendo to invite players to speedy challenges on a regular basis and compete against one another for worldwide rankings.

Gamers can expect Mario Kart Wii to hit stores this April 11. While we're all waiting for its upcoming release, make sure to keep those Wii Wheels warmed up for this latest title in the Mario Kart series.

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

Sounds like fun! Too bad you can only have so many channels. Hopefully they open that up later.

I see they're implementing the same multiplayer joining mode as they did for Mario Kart DS which was quick. Although I hated when racers disconnected when they were losing.
