Since the Wii's release, it's left a trail of Wiimote-related accidents in its wake, from broken screens to a chunk of hair being ripped out when it got tangled on the wrist strap. Despite numerous warnings from Nintendo, accidents are still bound to happen.
Now reports have been surfacing of a new "Wiinjury" which doctors describe are usually only found in athletes. Apparently, some people have been spending too much time on the Wii that they display sports injuries.
Nintendo recently responded to these incidents, giving out a few tips on the way. Anka Dolecki, director of public relations for Nintendo of America, has released this statement:
Nintendo is committed to ensuring not only a fun game play experience on the Wii, but a safe one as well. [...] Nintendo is being very responsive [to these incidents] and created the Wii Remote Jacket to provide additional protection. The Wii Remote Jacket is included with all Wii Remotes.
[...] The Wii Remote is perfectly safe when used as instructed: use a firm grip, donÂ’t let go, use the wrist strap and make sure the game-play area has ample open space.
As when beginning any new physical activity, itÂ’s best to pace yourself and not overdo it. Some games, including Wii Sports, include in-game reminders for players to take a break every now and then.
So remember, Wii gamers: relax, try not to get carried away, and always put on the wrist strap (and pull your hair back, ladies).
