According to one Nintendo representative, the up and coming PlayStation Network service PlayStation Home is nothing but Wii's Mii system. The spokesperson remarked, "This is an example of Sony's 'Mii-too'
approach. But as Mr. Miyamoto states, Nintendo years ago considered and
rejected the type of approach Sony is now taking."Some may argue now that the PlayStation 3's 3D avatar system, or the whole online world for that matter, is much, much complicated than that of the Nintendo Miis. After all, some of the few criticisms that Nintendo's online community service has been getting is that it lacks customization options and that it is very basic.
The Nintendo representative remained defiant though and explained that that is not news at all. The spokesperson even went on and defend the Mii. According to the official, "Miis have become a cultural phenomenon in their own right, appealing well beyond the traditional core gamer audience, and the process of populating them across the Wii universe is just beginning."
Regardless, it is now clear that the newly released consoles are offering an online community service with the help of 3D avatars. On the other hand, Microsoft's Xbox Live, even though it started this whole online thingamajig for this round of console war, is somewhat lacking. We wonder if Microsoft has something up its sleeves.

cry much nintendo, just because its better than your mii service
Well, you have to admit, they did do it first.(So what if you do it better...)
But Mii fits the wii as it is, yes I would like to see some more customization, but as I see home as more than just some stupid service that the gaming company puts on your console. ;)
I almost doubt microsoft has anything up their sleeves, they've been working hard on other things(for all I know).
But yeah, this looks better than the Wii channels, sorry.

Did it first?? There have been hundreads of games where you make your own character and can play games with them - MMORPG's. All nintendo did was bring this to a console in a simplistic way. Whereas Sony brought it to the console in a more full-on way with no expense spared.
ps3 already has a user account system which is similar to the wii but more limited. Playstation Home will be like Second Life. Its a virtual world where you can customize more than just your looks. You can also interact with other PSN users and access the PS Store through it. Playstation Home is much much different from the Mii system

Nintendo released theres first.
PS Home has been in development long before the Nov launch of the PS3.
It is way too polished to be something coming out of 1-2 months time.
Also, hints have been gathered that the service began development over a year ago and Sony shut those up because it was a small post on their forums some time ago.
So to say, Nintendo did what they did to fit the Wii, and Sony is doing what they are doing to fit the PS3.
But one thing stays the same, HOME destroys the Mii.

Anyway, this is exactly what I said in my comment for the first post about PlayStation Home: it's at least partially a rip-off of the Mii, but they're missing what makes Miis so popular and intriguing.

Ok, I saw the video and I want a Ps3 now. Of course I'll wait to see what it is exactly, but I always thought a 3d environment would make such a great menu.
Imagine going to your mail box to check the mail, on your phone to speak directly to an online friend...or leave him a message on his voice box if heis playing....
The only problem I see is that Ps3 home would actually give you another reason to stay home... not going out. Who here got addicted once to those virtual world, I did and my real social life just crashed at that time.
Anyway, we can see that this is nicely done, let's wait to see how interactive it is before giving a final opinion.

Nintendo is worst than than the 5 year old kids that play their games. You copied this from me, and this and that, I mean come on grow up!!!! Avatars have been on online forums and other websites for years, so who copied who? Also whether you want to accept it or not, the ps3 home is much more advanced than the crappy mii system the wii uses. Ninity must accept that we are all humans and that we all want to be better than everyone elf, and competition its much better for consumers than monopoly. So just concentrate on making your product better and forget about who copied who. Look at Microsoft's live system, it have been "copied" by many others but they just focus on improving it and not on making useless comments.

Nintendo are lying about this. The Second Life -like Home was developed INDEPENDENTLY from the Mii concept.
Seriously, do console users really need a virtual Second Life-esque thing? I still find browsing the internet on consoles incredibly stupid. This is why we have computers! I'd rather download Second Life on my computer rather than a console. With the console war, the computer, no doubtfully, wins.
Sony may have been inspired by your TINY little Mii thing. BUT they did it better than you. Sony may not be 100% original but they do EVERYTHING better.

I used to feel that way but really I've come to the opposite conclusion - why do I need a PC anymore? Getting a large screen tv changed my attitude 180 degrees.
Accessing visual content on the large screen t.v. blows away computer monitors..the Mac usage has declined dramatically since the PS3 was hooked up to the big screen.
Splitting the large screen 4 ways for multiplayer still leaves you with individual spaces larger than most computer monitors..just one example.
Relaxing on the couch instead of sitting in a chair hunched over a desk or keyboard is freedom...way more comfortable. Going back to be being chained to a desk is well ... ugh.
Also means have one place for everything instead of moving to second life/pc, moving back to console for gaming, moving content back and forth between pc and console, back and forth, multiple backups required, different OS's..just better to have it all on one place. One interface, one storage area for content. Easy backup
Bliss. Life is much simpler and streamlined...and doing it via the T.V. just makes more sense now...and if you have pip for different inputs it will be even better as you can mix t'v and console material.
Next time around I'll be looking for that feature..
People are more concentrated on consoles then PCs, and people are more excited about consoles then PCs. Go play your WOW and let us play all the thousand console games available.
If you havn't noticed yet, Nintendo's been trying to cut up Sony since E3 2005 when Sony unveiled the PS3 Banana controller and hinted towards motion sensitivity. Few months later Nintendo officailly announces the Wiimote with no prior hints. Sony starts hinting for an online virtual world with their 'this is living' campaign and Nintendo pushes out the Mii thing ahead of Sony's official announcements again.
Nintendo has been trying to screw Sony ever since they got caught trying to go behind Sony's back while under joint contract for the whole playstation deal. Nintendo screws up and Sony comes out with the Playstation on their own topples Nintendo for two game gens and now Nintendo is trying to jump ahead of sony any way they can. Even if it means using last gen hardware with a new controller to make insta-profits on hardware and officially releasing plans that are similarly under works by other console making companies (Sony & MS). Dont forget the over the top fees they have you paying for VC games, your many versions of Gameboy, and Wii

Um...yeah popular: 5,000,000 people have nothing else to do. Intriguing: It's a cheap offbrand of some other things... if you want to call it intriguing I will add that into the equation, because it's only like that because it's plugged into TV and when your friends are over you can make their character for them to play on that actually looks like them. or you can make fun of some star by making a crappy off-mii of him/her, BUT, If you added some of home's features, it would truly be better, but sadly the wii probably can't handle it. What will make Home popular and intriguing are the facts that were stated in the review.

Honestly, everyone has "already come up with THAT idea" when it comes to anything new. The "Mii" system is a weak hash of nothing compared to Home, I don't know why Nintendo is even comparing.
I actually didn't think of that, but it's true. Nintendo was thinking about making a disc drive for the SNES , they actually got Sony to make the attachment! Then they turned around and stabbed Sony in the back, Sony got POed, came out with the PS a few years later and Nintendo has been feeling the heat ever since.
Honestly, moves like this (by Sony) are going to get their respected name back on track and out of the fanboy/media gutter of tear downs (mainly due to the price of the PS3) that have been plaguing the PS3 since it's debut.
What made me laugh out loud was when the said that Mii is a cultural phonemonon. Yeah right, do people actually use Mii's or are they too busy playing games? I feel sorry for Nintendo. Then don't even have online! Come on, this 2007 online is an absolute must.

Home's not even out and the competition is already panicking. This is great. Sony really outdid them selfs this time. I new Sony was gonna do the online experience bigger and better and here it is. Too bad xbots live is good but home is going to kick a**.
Home isn't fully out yet, and though it is nice and appealing, how it functions and works is an entirely different story. Sony needs to show they can fix their slow network connections cause this looks like it will just eat up bandwidth and slow to a crawl. Maybe get some servers here in the states for us US owners. I shouldn't experience slow dowloads on a fiber optic connection.
And on slow network connections, 360 does a great job and Nintendo needs to pick up the slack. Though it's faster than the PS3 network, their choice for not having a HD so nothing is CACHED is a real pain in the ass in BROWSING.

look at the prices, thats where these companies really worry. nintendo is still on the low end of bringing in the cash. Average out the core and premium prices for the 360 and PS3 multiply by the number of consoles sold for each company and youll see that the wii isnt making as much for nintendo for the number of units sold.
Nintendo + High numbers * Low Income + Ripping off consumers from the start with profit out of the box for everything they sell.
Even as much as I dislike MS for buying their way into the gaming industry, least they treat their devs and customers with a little respect and dignity.
Hardly. Saving and spending my money wisely. Making smart and timely choices. Yes. It's amazing how much money you save by eating oatmeal every morning (pennies a day), brown bagging lunches instead of eating out and working hard. Sacrifices too many people are unwilling to make now a days.
That's why I bought a PS3 for the value. Once I started adding up all the extra costs with the alternatives they just didn't make sense in comparison.
And now I can sell off the iMac since a PC is no longer needed with the PS3 in the house. Buy value and quality and time it right and it's much much cheaper in the long run. No need to be rich - just make sacrifices in other areas to get what you want.
And oh do your homework instead of blindly listening to what others want you to believe.
see what happens nintendo, you didn't do your job of impulse buy. playstation won for sure this year and many more. you can't deny sony work for online and customize yourself. miis are midget or itty kids. nintendo needs to mature and be more worth it. sony keynote is showing us more of what ps3 can bring us.

SCEA and SOE are developing MMORPG(somethin g similiar to ffxi) style online service for PS3 right now. It will have online pack which it comes with HDD and the online software. You can go online and chat with people like mmorpg style. Your stats will have the list of games you have and scores(or ranks) for each game, and other great things. And if you want to look for someone to play online for certain game, you have to go to this certain area(or town) for that specific game or the game will automatically takes you to that town. Sony thinks "hyper links" technology is a history. They want to create a "virtual world" for PS3 online service where people can actually interact eachother like mmorpg style. There are more great details, but this is all I can get for now. I'm not expecting you to believe me

Not every server is "fast". PS3 may seem slow, but that's because it doesn't use servers yet for games. The speed over time will pick up though. A great example is how Warhawk is using servers for online to lessen the PS3 lag.

Looks like Sony is dropping the price soon.
I wonder if they did plan this all along, get all the fanboys to buy one early. This way, in the long run, sony's average cost issue wouldn't be as great. But then again, IBM recently announced the cheaper and smaller version of the cell, and Sony making a cheaper Blu-Ray player.
The Eyetoy was the most boring add on ever after about Two games I never used it again.

It's better to get Home rather than Second Life, because you can play PS3 games too (here's how: log off home, insert a disk, go play)
Home will be fast if the creators don't mess it up by syncing unneccassary stuff (e.g. WHERE UR ELBOWS, LEGS, FEET, HEAD, MOUTH at, WHERE DA BOWLING BALL AT), I bet they'll make it so that the server sends what to generate, the client generates it, it may be out of sync but it's still faster.
Go look around on the net or look on You Tube there are not just kids playing Wii there are also the elderly people playing so shut the ***** up tards.
