Nintendo: Miyamoto's thoughts on retirement

Shigeru Miyamoto - Image 1It's an ominous question, but it's bound to be asked. When does Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto plan to retire? Only he would know, so the game producer was asked this during a recent interview.

He replied, "Don't movie directors usually make films until they die? Annually, I don't make that much money. So I don't think I can retire."

And while we won't ask anything about his paycheck, we have to agree with Miyamoto's first point. There's much to be done in the upcoming days, with Miyamoto hinting at another possible Zelda game for the Wii.

There's also the matter of the new Wii Fit game, which is expected to keep otherwise couch-bound players trim and fit. Mr. Miyamoto's probably got plenty more to work on in the near future (especially post-E3). There's the projects we've just mentioned, and the possibility that he'll be working on something bigger that might leave its mark on society in the days/month/years to come. We'd like to ask the readers regarding this thought - what other works can we probably expect to see from one of gaming's most influential people?

:(

It will be a sad day in the gaming world when this great man passes on, never to feel the heat of the day again, never to feel sorrow, or pain. We will truely miss him. After that, what will become of his titles? Mario and Zelda? Only time will tell. Until his passing of life, until his final breath, and a final swing of his legendary sword, and a final smash of his koopa smashing fist.... lets PARTII!

Doesn't make that much annually

How is it that someone who's got a track record for making great games for the past 20+ years doesn't make that much annually, yet the CEO's for these companies get ridiculous pay? Miyamoto's responsible for a large portion of Nintendo's success and should be compensated accordingly. It would serve Nintendo right if someone like Sony swooped in and offered the guy a $XXmillion signing bonus if he'd agree to work for them for the next 5-10 years.

I'm gonna go out on this crazy limb here and say that he was probably being modest

...

That's a pretty far out suggestion man, what kind of drugs are you smoking there? Obviously Nintendo wouldn't pay a man of his calibre a decent wage. /sarcasm

.

I do believe that was the infamous Japanese modesty at play. Not to mention he'd probably never abandon Nintendo for Sony, or anyone else.
