Nintendo: Mario Kart Wii's text chat feature only consists of predetermined chat messages |
Ó
It seems that Nintendo is still not letting up on its strict rules about communication with other players in-game. While we've been teased with the announcement that Mario Kart Wii will have text chat support in and out of races, the truth is that you will only be able to communicate with your friends with pre-determined messages - something that completely flies in the face of all the news about freely making your own chat messages in Mario Kart Wii. Ouch.
This news has been confirmed via a hands-on session of the game. As we quote:
Something else we forgot to mention is the chatroom function in the online play. Nintendo haven’t given players the freedom to chat freely, but players can choose from a selection of phrases that best fits their mood. “I’m happy”, “I’m sad”, that kind of thing.
What gives, Nintendo? We can appreciate the protection, but with Friend Codes pretty much making sure that no unwanted party can register you on their list without you registering them as well, making a crippled version of in-game chat can be considered as overkill. Here's hoping that Mario Kart Wii doesn't meet the same fate as Super Smash Bros. Brawl - an otherwise perfect game marred by such a tiny, yet glaring flaw.

Make a video game system for little kids... lock down the system for little kid chat!
f*ck you Nintendo. Just give us what we want. we are all getting mad at you, and if you continue this until the next generation then when the other companies go to the next step, then you will be still in the dark ages and you will lose customers, and you will piss off a ton of people....
Just branch out! God when will you learn????
SORRY I had to say it.
I think Nintendo is going to wait until they're in third place again before they start listening to their fans.
As long as they have the highest selling console they make over $100 on each, they just don't care. What other games could you buy instead? Exactly.....
Nintendo listens to theyre fans more than XBOX! Or Even Ps3 seriously maybe they are trying to get it out sooner with this they would have to rework the system only being able to talk to friends and not just anyone and we would get mario kart a few months later like with brawl but hey maybe it would be worth it and MCS just shut up we know u hate nintendo and love xbox ok!?!?
How is limiting user communication a good thing?
This just further proves his point.
Its good if young game players cant be harrased by older kids thats one thing but what i said was that if they decided to make changes NOW we would get the game a few months later then we would if they dont make changes to the chat thing like with Brawl and online play so my point is would everyone want those changes but get it sooner me i would be fine with getting mario kart a few months later but not every one feels that way
I don't see how the game could be delayed longer because they let you add your own messages. They didn't even have to make a whole new game, they just modified the Gamecube game with a few enhancments.
I don't see why the Wii still can't manage voice chat. It's like Nintendo doesn't even pay attention to the competition and what they offer.
I've never been harassed by anyone on XBOX live or PSN.
