Nintendo gets sued for its Wiimote

WiimoteNothing says "you're a success" better than a lawsuit. Just ask Borat creator Sacha Baron Cohen. Or Apple. Microsoft. Sony. You can add Nintendo to that list.

The Japanese company was sued by California-based Interlink Electronics for the Wii's copyright infringements on their very own Trigger Operated Electronic Device. The Trigger Operated Electronic Device, according to the company's patent as an "Ergonomically effective mouse for operating a computer" and an invention that "relates to a trigger operated electronic device... it concerns a mouse for operating a cursor in a computer system."

Although the diagrams of Interlink's device is no dead ringer for Nintendo's Wiimote, Interlink claims ownership of the trigger element common to both. Interlink said Nintendo's Wiimote has caused them loss of royalties and reduced sales and profits. The company wants a restraining order against the sale of Nintendo's controller, payment for assessed damages (multiplied three times plus interest) and reimbursement of legal fees. The company also demanded a trial by jury.

Nintendo has this to say about the issue: the company doesn't comment on pending litigation.

Nintendo is going to own them, that's an invalid patent that's easy to get trashed.

Just like when when Universal tried to sue Nintendo for creating Donkey Kong because it resembled King Kong. In fact, Universal was forced to pay for Nintendo's court fees at the end along with other stuff.

Yeah they can stick it in their hole like everything else. If they think that a trigger operated device is how you contole it they are wrong. It uses buttons, and the trigger is a button as well, that has been shaped so that you can use it more effectively. Think a square button that has been pluged in on an angle. thats all it is. And besides , there are other devices that use the same thing, just look at joysticks for computers, although not ll do, some have tridgers on them. sides, their just anal storage douch bags anyways.

Don't you just love the American legal system? You don't have to work hard in life, just mooch of someone else!! Nintendo is not going to sue Sony because they were inspired or something by Nintendo. Its just what a free market is about. If someone can come along and improve on a product you invented, their allowed. They need to make some new law or something that only allows you to sue someone like once every 10 years.

And to kill the best game platform out:

"The company wants a restraining order against the sale of Nintendo's controller"

We need an official "Boycott Interlink" campain.

So they are not even really sueing for the remote, but just really because of the trigger. I've seen the deisgn for thier pointer and I think it's funny how thier are 1000 other pionters just like it, but they choose to sue Nintendo"the company w/ money", and not all theother pionter companies w/ no money. Plus the Wii-mote has tilt, built-in speaker, memory, rumble, and an input for other devices clearly way more sophisticated than this company's product that has only managed to make it to paper. How would it work if the first person to patent the remote came back and sued Interlink. So what are they saying no one can make a remote or a pointer anymore. Not mention Nintendo's been working on the Wii for years.

I dont get it. the company makes an infared mouse thing and now there sueing Nintendo because they made a game controller that has "triggers"?!? That's beside the fact that an "infared mouse" is ***** pointless.

I think it's possible that Sony is paying interlink to sue Nintendo. Why else would Interlink try to sue the biggest game company in the world? It's just a case of the company with the most money trying to attack the company just below it. Anyway, Nintendo is awesome, and they will win this without a problem.

LOL! Loss of royalties? Reduced sales and profits? No, that's caused by the fact that NOBODY HAS EVER HEARD OF INTERLINK.

nintendo wii is full of *****, ha ha they probably got sued becaz the remote can injue people when their in the way, the ps3 six axis controller isnt as dangerous as the wii remote. the ps3 rules, it kills the wii, it can play ps2 ps1 and ps3 games, also it can play dvd movies, and high definition blu ray disc movies, nintend wii wont play movies until the add on dvd player for the wii will be available next year. so the ps3 rules u should get that.
