Nintendo-GameStop Wii Rain Checks didn't do well as expected

Wii Rain Check - Image 1After Nintendo and GameStop launched their Wii rain check program, people were expecting the rain checks to run out within the short promotional period of December 20 to 21. However, the rain check program didn't turn out to be a success, as was expected.

Some GameStop store managers said that despite promotional signage and phone calls, several stores were not able to sell through their rain checks. As a result of the cool reception, GameStop reportedly extended the rain check program.

Despite the current Wii shortage, it is indeed strange why people wouldn't snap up the chance of reserving Wiis for only US$ 249.99, without any price increase. It seems that some people may just prefer to pay inflated prices to scalpers or line up in long queues in front of retail stores, instead of just waiting until the end of January.

.

Well I think it's because the consumer would rather "have" the item after they paid for it, rather than paying up front then having to wait until an "unknown" date to get it. What do you guys think?

hmm

well, I told several people about it who I knew wanted it one, and I don't think they went for it, either. Not really sure why. Guess they think they'll find one before the end of January...ha! also, I don't think they really advertised it much. I never saw the promotion on TV, so how were people that don't check game sites on the 'net or look at the GS circular supposed to know about it? If little billy's mom wanted to buy one for him (or even herself), she never even knew about it, most likely. She just keeps looking at walmart and target.

Hmph

The Wii is just a gift system. You don't give gifts after Christmas unless there's a birthday in February... Let's be honest, people passed on this because Walmart and Best Buy were saying they'd have some on Xmas eve.... If you can't wrap a Wii to put it under the tree, wrap a PS3 or 360 and put it under the tree instead, there's always next year... I mean, getting the kids what they REALLY want isn't an option since they'll just forget about not getting the Wii if you buy them a PS3 (that has no games out for it)... American consumers are stupid, let's face it... This was a good program, but it could've been better if you didn't get a dvd case but instead got a mario statue or something...
