Nintendo faces patent suit regarding the Wii

Nintendo faces a patent suit regarding the Wii - Image 1With the multiple patent infringement lawsuits (such as Sony facing at least two concerning Blu-ray) being tossed around lately, it seems that everyone is jumping on the bandwagon.

Lonestar Inventions has said that the Wii infringes on a patent it holds for a "high capacitance structure in a semiconductor device."

The said patent was granted back in 1993 and shows the implementation of a method which triples the effectiveness of parallel plate capacitors through the use of layers of conducting strips.

This is not the first time Lonestar has sued other companies with regards to this patent. The said company have already sued Texas Instruments and Marvell Semiconductor over this issue before. Both cases were eventually settled, however.

Also just this month, the company sued Eastman Kodak Company alleging infringement of the patent in question. Given these, we can't help but say that this company is no stranger to litigation. Nintendo, on the other hand, has not commented on this issue.

Not much details have come to the public's attention, so it's hard to tell if Lonestar Inventions does have a legal case with this. Hopefully, more news will turn up to enlighten the general public. Be sure to keep checking back here for the latest development on this matter.

Hey poster number one, your a phucktard, so shut the phuck up. Again, here is the failure of the patent system. Companies patent ideas and not actual inventions. Retarded. Companies like that exist for no other reason that to sue. May they go straight to HELL! This is NINTENDO! Ok, so a little over the top, but come on!

# Nintendo used to sue people a lot too.Guest 2007-06-13 15:02
You know, Even though I am a die hard Nintendo Fan, they have done their share of suing back in the day. There was one case, Nintendo VS. Charles Galoob Toys INC. (the other guys made the first thing that does what a Gameshark or Pro Action Replay does). This case went to the supreme court. The supreme court said that cheating machines were legal and thus, cheating machines have been around and still are.

So in a sense, this is very ironic.

i believe #3 was referring to the fact that nintendo is a huge company being sued by a smaller one.

I like the wii. Am i a fanboy? i also happen to own a ps1,2,p and a pc (running linux). i consider myself not a fanboy, simply anti-microsoft.
