Nintendo's European arm has confirmed the existence of the reported glitch in the PAL version of Super Paper Mario. As we reported earlier, the game-freezing glitch occurs when players confront Mimi inside Merlee's Mansion in Chapter 2-2.

Those who own a copy of the game's PAL version can get their game discs replaced for free courtesy of Nintendo Europe. Players can also choose to go with either the language settings workaround we mentioned in our earlier report on the glitch or the following workaround from Nintendo Europe:

At the start of Chapter 2-2, you will come across a character called Mimi. She will tell you to go to the farthest room on the first floor to meet a character called Merlee. Enter that room and press the green switch. A trap will be triggered, and a spiked ceiling will descend upon Mario.

Before the ceiling reaches him, flip into 3D and jump on it to find a key. If you pick up the key, you won't run into any problems. Use it to open the locked door to Mimi's right. However, if you talk to Mimi without picking up the key, the game will freeze. You will then have to turn off your Wii console and start again from your last save point.

Details about the replacement program will be announced soon on the official Nintendo Europe website. You can check it out by clicking on the Read link below.

Wiiconnect24

They should really start thinking about game fixes throught Wiiconnect24. Check the saved games on the console, after, checks for game fixes on the servers regarding those games. If date of last fix < fix available, download and patch automatically. Check when game disc is inserted, and prompt for Fix Download. People who don't have internet on the console could still ask for a new disk.

Meh

Nintendo needs to lose some money anyway.. They're ripping off 100,000 people a week for $50 profit on every DS sold. That's $5M profit per week just on DS'... Oh no.. they'll have to replace maybe.. MAYBE 5-10 thousand discs in europe at a manufacturer's cost of like a buck each.. Anyway.. sour grapes..

ripping off?

Since when does making a profit constitute ripping someone off? Isn't that the whole point of running a business? $119 for an awesome hand held gaming system is totally reasonable to me.

5-10 thousand?

Not hard to tell you're American, you havent got a clue about anything past your borders. Europe is huge, it's bigger than America, it's going to be into the hundred thousands, not 5-10. And since when did a company selling something at a profit deserve to lose money? That's what they're there to do genius. Believe it or not, all 3 companies do that, Nintendo are just the only one who do it on the consoles too, the others couldn't afford to do it on consoles, because they'd be too expensive, and no-one would buy them because they have to go for the latest tech instead of trying to change gaming in other ways.

...

Well, I'm glad I haven't bought it yet. I hope the copies of the game with the glitch will be removed from shops and replaced by working copies soon. As for the other discussion, companies exist only to make profit, of course, that's true. It doesn't mean they have to profit from European people... Do you know that Nintendo gains 13$ in Japan for each Wii sold, 49$ in the USA, and 74$ in Europe!! So I'll have to somehow agree with Keith K on that matter, Nintendo (and other companies) really screw up with us Europeans. We get games much later than everyone else, they're more expensive, and they can't even test the damn games before they release them! Come on... And thanks to the "regional locks", we can't even play US or Japanese games on our european console... Way to go! We europeans gotta be milked for all we're worth! And we sure love it! -_-
