Nintendo America: there's no need for a Wii hard drive

The Wii - Image 1There's been rumors of a hard drive for the Wii ever since... well, a long time ago. Every time the rumor surfaces though, Nintendo's always said no. This time, Nintendo America's PR manager Eric Walter squashes future hopes of its appearance by saying that the console has no need for a hard drive.

Walter explains that it's really not necessary for the Wii to have a hard drive:

The way that we look at it is, we really don't want people storing every single game they buy on their drive. When you buy a game, it's yours forever, so you can delete it, and go back and get it at any time you want. In a way, we liken it to putting music on your iPod; you listen to it for a while, and then you get tired of it, and you pull it off, and you put some new stuff on.

Walter's remarks probably won't squash the rumors, and it definitely won't squash the demands of the gamers. How far can the demands go? Only time will tell.

» Wish I had friends like that!

Nice to see friendship go a long way!

» Doesn't make much sense.

Everybody is different, just like the people who buy Nano's vs the Video iPods. Some people are like he said, but other people, myself included, like having our entire library with us.

» Is he retarded?

Does he even consider how sh*tty the Wii's download speed is? Re-downloading something you bought is ANNOYING.

» idiots...

why wouldn't they want us to keep everything that we bought? It saves them bandwidth... and all nintendo is a high profit company >.>

» omg

here's the problem: the wii-ware: once the games there get too big they will be forced to provide an external hard drive! And what about DLC?

» well...

there making a nice piece of profit right now on the last gen piece of **** and buy putting hard drive inwould take some of that away. graphics are as good as a gamecube it has gamecube ports that dont look any better with some download options and motion controls even the PS2 can copy its still a rehashed gamecube in my eyes. there lucky they have SMG coming out because mine was collecting dust since zelda. i never liked mertroid.

» Really!

Why, please tell us why Sony should have Six axis tilt controls on there controllers.

Its not exactly like the Wii controls, your obviously a Fanboy of some kind, jealous that Sony has a cool feature. R+C actually has the best use of controls for them, second is Heavenly sword.

Also i think Nintendo will realize that they will need HD in the future. In this day and Age HD's are a must. Also just a question if you buy a HD can you use it as an extra storage thing on the Wii.
