Oops, wrong Nielsen. - Image 1Nintendo's Wii console may be in more households than a PlayStation 3 or an Xbox 360, but Nielsen's recently released State of the Video Gamer study shows that Sony and Microsoft consoles are actually being used more often.

According to the study, the Wii is the least-used of the seventh-gen consoles with an "Average User Percentage" of 6.8 percent. The Sony PlayStation 3 showed the highest Aver User Percentage at 10.6 percent, with Microsoft's Xbox 360 console close behind at 10.2 percent.

This means that Wii owners used their consoles 6.8 percent of the total amount of time that they could have used the system during Nielsen's measurement period during December 2008. The study was conducted using a sample of 17,000 US households.

The Wii also showed low numbers in terms of daily average number of sessions (1.78 sessions; 2.42 for PS3 and 2.15 for Xbox 360) and average usage days (5 days; Xbox 360 had 6.8 and PS3 had 7.1 days average).

Of course, the usage stats shown here don't just cover actual game time. Nielsen also noted in their report that the additional multimedia features in the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles could explain the increased usage.

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

Why do you guys bother to report this trash?

It's IMPOSSIBLE to know such information!!!! The best they can do is to figure out which console is used most ONLINE.

They only sampled 17,000 people and only in ONE MONTH. That is worthless information. That means they asked .006 percent of console owners.

Come on Karl!

I unplugged my Wii and replaced it with the ol' N64.

It is more fun and has much better games.

Too bad Nintendo finally released the stockpiles of Wii systems in the secret warehouse, because now I can't even sell the POS for near what it cost.
