2010 still is a long way ahead of us but industry experts have been keen on the future of our next-gen systems' sales. Who will flop? Who will win the race? Just recently, the International Development Group released a Q3 report giving us a hint of who will end up as the topnotch console ten years from now. And the predictions are none too surprising. The Xbox 360, compared to the PS3 and the Wii, will likely generate 2.8 million to 23.9 million by 2010. Sales history showed Microsoft will succeed in their 3.4 to 4.9 million units goal on sales. However, the report showed that even in the past, Microsoft still failed to break Sony's PS2 sales, including that smashing 6.1 million units of PS2 sold in 2001. But Microsoft should take heart, as they're likely to get an edge over the PS3 and Wii's limited launch supply.
The PS3's delayed launch will take its toll against Sony, but fanboys will shift the sales on other products despite that, according to the report. In Europe, Sony will remain a top dog. The brand remains strong, with a predicted sales record of 5.2 million to 23.5 million by 2010.
IDG saw that Nintendo is going to benefit fully from the Wii sales, despite the issues that may occur with third party publishers. The delayed PS3 launch will also be a boon for Nintendo, making the launch bundle an attractive option for most consumers. The cheaper Wii will push people to allocate their money on a library of games available for the console. Wii's sales by 2010 is expected to reach 2.2 million to 13.6 million.
Well, there goes the very short breakdown. According to IDG, "From a market share perspective, a more balanced market structure between the three new consoles now seems even more probable." If that's the case, it's going to be a happy ending for everyone.

Sony may dominate the market again, but only time will tell, not predictions. They have a good (although expensive for casual gamers) product. I don't like the way Sony is pushing Blu-Ray now only move to Downloadable HD Movies and Games (or Movie/Game on Demand type stuff) for their PS4 in 10 years.
MicroSoft has a great start for a second sysem. They are getting the developers they need (Kojima and SquarEnix FF Division notwithstanding ) to create great new franchises for the system. They have learned their lesson and have more money then they know what to do with (2 Billion in profits alone last year).
The scary thing is... does any of this really matter? Even if Sony wins this "console war" do gamers really think M$ will stop making new systems? Does anyone think Nintendo won't find some way to continue to give Mario to the masses? Does anyone really believe Sony will get rid of its gaming division?
Nah... didn't think so.

It cost Microsoft millions already just to enter the market. It looks like their gaming division might make money this time around, they aren't going anywhere.
Sony may take a hit in market share this time, but let's face it, the 360 has earned a name for itself as a quality product with an enjoyable gaming experience. Aldo face the fact that Sony learned some lessons and have bettered their product this time around. They have evolutionized the gaming experience by seeing what gamers want and responding. Don't give me that "They stole XBL" crap either. Go talk to Nintendo who is also doin an online service, why are they not posers? Ya shut up, it's called evolution.
Nintendo is old school and their price model is completely different than the other two. They make money on everything they sell. For this reason they are the only company that posts consistant profits every year. They have said they will never stop making consoles until the market completely crashes or until they are completely out of business, they are not going anywhere.

First of all, I think about 8 million people (at least) will disagree with you disliking Zelda. And, who cares about seeing games like Motorstorm with it's hyper realistic visuals and physics engine? I mean, that's all it's good for. And, bar the initial "Holy ***** these visuals rock" reaction, it hasn't got much.
I think people will really get a shock when the Wii sales are a LOT higher then analysts predict them to be.

The games also cost half as much, and they were included in this chart.
There are still quite a few gamers that will only buy 1 console due to money issues, so I think the $ prediction on these charts for the Wii is accurate, if the ps3 and x360 ones are correct.
But there's something this chart doesn't show: Profit. Every console means profit for Nintendo, and that's not true for MS and Sony. MS and Sony have to make all their profit on games, with the consoles eating part of that. Nintendo can remain solvent on consoles alone.
