New Wii update bricking consoles?

It seems blocking homebrew isn't the only thing that System Menu 4.2 does. According to some reports from NeoGAF and Nintendo's own tech forums, it's also causing Wiis to get bricked.

Not everybody is affected, but it doesn't just happen to HBC-enabled Wiis. Apparently the update has dodgy boot2 code that has a high chance of causing write errors. It looks like this is the cause of the brickage.

Nintendo hasn't said anything official yet, although there are complaints that some tech support forum posts about the issue are being deleted.

Thanks to Janglez for the tip!

Just... wow. I could maaaaaaybe see Nintendo being crappy to the homebrew people and bricking their Wiis, but totally legit non-hacked consoles are getting bricked?

No it doesn't.

And official stats put YLOD at 0.5% of systems.

that is why about three friends on their PS3 had the Blu-Ray drive problem snd their ...oh and I think the last one was that the new 3.00 firmware messed up some console and also the YLOD still happens though sadly enough and unlike microsoft, sony doesn't give the extra warranty sadly enough

@Techni

You're an idiot, I know two people whose blu-ray player in their PS3 stopped working, and guess what? Sony wanted over $100 to fix it.

The world would be a better place with a open source console running Linux... Yeah its a small computer, but what console these days isn't.. Throw some cool controller into the mix, pay for decent games and still have the ability to do the usual everyone wants.. emulators.. web browser.. media player.. and there you have it.

Techni said that the PS3 doesn't have the problem and you agreed with him/her without any revision to the statement and you also said he gave a "FACTUAL" statement do in saying you are agreeing with him that it doesn't exist

1. Nintendo never lied about anything.

2. They are fixing the consoles for FREE.

Once again, you prove yourself to be a know-nothing imbecile.

but i have to agree with him on this one you can't call evil a company for trying to block something ILEGAL on his OWN CONSOLE, if someone hacked the console and someone benefits from it well thats a different issue but the fact is is still a HACK and its still illegal.
