New screens from Ubisoft's Red Steel have just come into our hands, and it's certainly one of the most promising Wii games on display at E3. Then again, just about every Wii game looks promising...some of the pictures here are taken from the trailer, some are new.

In case you didn't know yet, Red Steel's plot has the protagonist rescuing his girlfriend from a brutal gang of Yakuza. Taking full advantage of the Wii's revolutionary control system, players will become modern-day samurais, using guns as well as swords to fight the Japanese underworld. With the aid of mental powers, they even can freeze time to target a whole bunch of enemies at the same time.

Red Steel's release date is currently set for Holidays 2006.

Wii can generate graphics higher than Gamecube and that's good enough for me. Gamecube had some of the best graphics anyone has ever seen. Games like Metroid Prime, Baten Kaitos and Resident Evil 4. So Wii is capable of topping even those games. So if we see a few games looking that good, that's good enough for me, but at the end of the day it comes down to gameplay.

What good are graphics if the gameplay sucks? Like Coded Arms on the PSP. That game looks good for PSP, but it sucks anus through a straw when it comes to controls.

# Awesome looking game...kid6488 2006-05-12 14:53
I agree with you spud about gameplay before graphics, that's just the way Nintendo has always been.

On a side note, how cool will it be if you can hold people at sword point like in the picture? Unless that's just how the fight ends...

# you guys are rightdarksquirrel 2006-05-12 17:27
yeah totally because better aiming = enhanced gameplay...who cares if the game looks like every other shooter on the market (plus bad graphics) you can now aim better and i hear you can even TURN THE GUN, omg thats soooo awesome, i can shoot things in a generic game gangsta style...i'm sold. I mean believing a game that looks *****ty has enhanced gameplay because nintendo said so is totally awesome.

seriously guys hold out till they get the good wii games out, it will take some time, don't fan boy it up. I mean seriously if you saw this and they said it was coming to the gamecube would you be excited? no.

# What bad graphics?Guest 2006-05-12 18:58
What bad graphics on Wii games are people talking about? Could someone please point out the games with bad graphics? The tennis games and such were intentionally low in graphics. The other games look great.

Plus, let's not forget that out of the three current-gen consoles, Sony's graphics are the worst. Xbox is the best, then Gamecube, Dreamcast then PS2. That's a fact. Sony just put more cutscenes in their games because they had 3x the storage of Gamecube on their DVD discs, but the actual games look better on Gamecube.

Heck, even Guilty Gear X on Dreamcast looks better than PS2's Guilty Gear X2 and Isuka. And Gamecube's Soul Calibur 2 looked better as well.

But PS2 sold more than Gamecube, Dreamcast and Xbox. It was the weakest system technically but delivered on gameplay.

And need I remind everyone how the N64-esque DS is outselling the PS2-esque PSP? It's NOT graphics that determine things at the end of the day.

there is a gigantic leap in visuals from wii to ps3, there wasn't a gigantic leap from ps2 and gamecube. And i was trashing this games graphics, they're boring, now mario galaxy on the other hand that looks fantastic. I'm saying not to let your fanboyism cloud your judgement, even nintendo can make bad games (0.0)

# doesnt look to goodGuest 2006-05-12 19:35
the game doesn't look too good, the control scheme at the press conference showed what i consider flaws, it didnt look smooth as metroid did, the aiming and camera movement were off which looks to be frustratin in the heat of the battle type situations, i for one was not hyped about this game.

# keep in mind...Guest 2006-05-12 22:27
Keep in mind that this is a third party game and still in development. I'm sure things will get cleaned up some in the final version.

Game still looks amazing to me, graphics wise.

And because it's a third party game it won't look as good or play as well as Nintendo games. So games like Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy will normally have a 1-up on it.

I still have high hopes for this game and can't wait to get it. But I'm willing to admit it has a few flaws as of now.

That's your opinion. Dreamcasts graphics were not better then PS2s. Nearly everything about the PS2s hardware is better, if not everything. (And no I'm not a sony fanboy either, in fact DC is my favorite system)

This looks fairly detailed, even for this early in development.
