When it comes to sentimentality, you can't go wrong with the Wii's Virtual Console - all those downloadable games blasting from the past of yesterday-decade or older are sitting there looking pretty as a retro-land 8-bit picture. Who needs the power of graphics when you got your childhood memory to back you up on your gaming experience?

Nintendo is chalking up four new titles available today (9 a.m., Pacific time) through the Wii Shop Channel for all you X-gen kids. As we have speculated just a few days ago, sci-fi pinball game Alien Crush is indeed one of them. The other three titles were also mentioned before, and their current appearance on the Wii Shop is a clear sign of good support from the third parties involved.

Here's a run down of the games available today.
  • Ice Hockey (NES, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)
    • Pass the puck, shoot to score. This ice-cool sports game might strike a familiar string in some gamers' hearts with its "boxy" graphics and bleeping sounds. Ah, the glory of the ring!
  • Gunstar Heroes (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
    • One of the more exciting side-scrollers during its time, you're once again called to stop the evil dictator from unleashing "Golden Silver the Destructor" on planet Gunstar 9.
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
    • Here's a puzzler from the Sonic universe. Hailing from other block puzzles and color-matching games, the concept is simple: gather beans of the same color and defeat Robotnik's guards.
  • Alien Crush (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points)
    • the fan-favorite, sci-fi pinball game is back with its "all brain, no skull, all eyes, no nose" baddie. Clear the board of those pesky little extraterrestrials and make sure the infestation is complete!

So far the only thing I have found worth the purchase is Mario 64. I think I'll wait till more games are available. Oh...forgot bout the NES zelda =P

My question is, why in New Zealand (and I don't know where else, although I tried switching my store to Australia) have we only got a very small handful of garbage VC titles? We haven't got any new games today, and I badly want gunstar heroes. We don't even HAVE a turbografix menu, we've got diddle all.

For one of the main reasons i got my wii, I'm pretty slacked off.

And I thought about the whole pal/ntsc issue, but gunstar heroes was most definitely launched in New Zealand orginally anyway.

I'm super ticked off by this.

I want bomberman and gunstar heroes *cries*
