NaturalMotion's morpheme 1.3 adds Unreal Engine 3 support, more |
Ó
NaturalMotion Ltd. has launched morpheme 1.3. Available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and the Wii, this program acts as a middlewear solution for in-game animation by allowing the developer to author and preview blends as well as blend trees and state machines in real time.
This latest iteration of the application adds support for Epic's Unreal Engine 3, live debugging of remote runtime targets, as well as implementation of Inverse Kinematics. Here's a short list of the program's newly added features:
- Animation sets allow the creation of multiple characters or LODs
- Inverse kinematics (IK) nodes for a range of common tasks
- Automatic constraint matching for detection of events such as footsteps
- Support for live debugging of remote runtime targets
- Fully scripted user interface
Version 1.3 is even more accessible, offering an unprecedented set of features that shifts the process of animation development from tedious lines of code to an easy-to-use graphical interface, whilst maintaining maximum code flexibility.

I saw a demo of this tech a long time ago and thought it was really kewl. Much better than pure ragdoll and/or pre-animated mis haps/ deaths. The engine allows for "human" characters to react (physically) to the world exactly how you thing they would.
Well, hopefully, we'll see some more games use this application in the future.
Ever heard GTA4 Well They have this already in the game. Nothing new.
